Now that we have D. Cooper's rendition of Fleming, I've wonder if anyone in the future will actually do a really faithful telling of Flemings' life.
So far, the closest anyone has come (especially in the looks-like-Fleming dept) to doing a decent job was Charles Dance in Goldeneye. Unfortunately, the producers still had to put in totally fictitious scenes showing Dance acting like his hero, which undercut the seriousness of the whole production for me.
The only way someone will ever do a decent job is if it is done as a miniseries, but one longer than Cooper's. It would show Fleming's entire life including his parents and how his father was killed - all the way to Fleming's death.
They would have an actor who would look like Fleming as Dance did (or even closer) and match the other people in his life as closely - especially Noel Coward - for some reason he seems to be difficult to cast properly.
If they could do this at the same level of substance and quality as Downton Abbey, I think it would get a substantial viewing audience.

There is supposedly a feature film in the works now. It has the backing of the Fleming family and the screenplay was being adapted from Andrew Lycett's superb biography, so we do at least know that they are making a serious effort to accurately portray Fleming this time around. It was supposedly - again - focused only on his wartime experiences but in light of the current mini-series, I wonder if that's still the case. No word yet on who would play Fleming in this one but I'm hopeful that they'll pick a good actor with a reasonable likeness for the job.
