The best Blofeld?

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but who is your favourite actor to have played the evil one? Though I liked the look of Donald Pleasence and he did a very good job of the part, my favourite is the unofficial one, Max von Sydow. His manner and sure-faced appearance was very much the Blofeld I imagined in the novels.

Agreed, Telly Savalas, though admittedly his was the best film!

Not a fan of Charles Gray's portrayal, but again that was as much to do with the humour quotient of the film and so not his fault. Anyone who's seen The Devil Rides Out will know he was capable of acting malevolence superbly.

Agreed Charles Gray was a Great actor and I guess if it had of been a more serious film, we might
of had a more menacing performance.

Definitely Telly for me. I liked that he'd get his hands dirty, getting stuck into the ski chases rather than sitting behind a desk barking orders to lackeys.

I preferred him when he wasn't seen. They all played the part well, though Donald Pleasence was the least menacing. I always liked Charles Gray, not so much that he was Blofeld but that he came across as the sort of bloated, arrogant lunk that was a typical CEO then and now. Someone -- Benson, maybe -- said that Telly Savalas was more like a gangster, and I will say he wasn't what I pictured sitting in the chair in the early movies. But he fits for On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Telly savalas as Blofeld. His Portrayal was closer to what the Novels described him as.

Savalas is my favorite. His voice, mannerisms, and menace really fit the picture for me.

I always loved the way Telly Savalas held his cigarettes, almost like a pen, or a pointer.

Telly for me as the best Blofeld as well and if they brought back Blofeld or a similar sort of character then I would love Mark Strong for the role but obviously if Our Idriss was unavailable :)) :))

Telly Savalas is the best. Tremendous urbane charm & I love his spill-the-beans speech to Bond.
Charles Gray has some great lines but is miscast because I associate him with Dikko Henderson.
Donald Pleasance looks okay but comes across a bit too petulant.
Max Von Sydow is utterly wasted.

I agree totally about Mark Strong.

Savalas without a doubt. Oh how I would have loved to see his Blofeld facing Connery's Bond!

Always wondered who Sir Sean Connery thought was his favourite Actor playing Blofeld was? Shame we'll probably never know.

Probably Anthony Dawson since his favourite Bond film is FRWL.

Yes Savalas for me too. His was the only Blofeld who looked as though he would have been Bond's equal in a fight. The others wouldn't have stood a chance against Connery or Lazenby.

Would love to see Russell Crowe or Tom Hardy as Blofeld...

    Could anyone answer this,
I always thought that Eric Pohlmann, did the voice of Blofeld in Thunderball but reading R Benson's
The James Bond bedside companion, He states that J Wiseman did it. Now is this a Mistake, or have I beeen
giving the wrong answer in Quizzes :))

For me it is the unseen Blofeld from the earlier movies. He was by far the most of an enigma.

The voices are certainly different. I'd say Raymond Benson is correct. Perhaps Joe Wiseman did it as a favour to Terence Young.

Different sources (Steven Jay Rubin, Graham Rye, etc) claim different voices for Blofeld in TB, sometimes contradicting themselves. Officially it seems the credit* is for Eric Pohlmann, who had provided No.1's voice for FRWL while others insist it's Joseph Wiseman. To my ears it sounds like Wiseman- compare the scene in DN when Prof Dent is given the tarantula with the SPECTRE briefing in TB.
All seem agreed that the body is Anthony Dawson (Dent, of course) in both FRWL and TB.

    * no actual credit given, of course.
