For the life of me, I can't imagine what this big hook was. I think Skyfall was well plotted, but there's no big hook. Bond quitting the service? He was always doing that or threatening to do that. Bond pretending to be dead? See YOLT. The deth of M? Most fans saw that coming.

Does anybody know what Morgan was talking about?

I read that about a year ago...it could be the fact that Silva was ex-SIS....but that's been done too...maybe it was the return to Bond's ancestral home...?...

There is some speculation that Silva was actually M's son and that it was reveiled in the 'Think on your sins' message but that is was left on the cutting room floor.

Funny, I was just thinking about this last night. At the time I assumed it was M getting killed, but it turns out Purvis and Wade had been trying to write that in for a while.

So I presume instead that it was that Silva was ex MI6 and had been betrayed by M.

Yeah, the hook was that Bond was really a short-sighted, amnesiac idiot who couldn't remember "Moneypenny's" name despite having worked with her before and seen it on her lanyard ID badge at MI6!!!!!!!!!!

It wasn't the only reason for not coming to this site for a while, but I bowed out of all things Bond for about six months before Skyfall. There were plenty of hooks, left and right, because I hadn't had it drip fed to me. Skyfall was my best Bond cinema experience because I literally didn't have a clue. I didn't know Fiennes was even in it, nor that M would die, that there was the DB5, or a new Moneypenny, or who the villain was going to be.
