Moore films - Most jokey to least jokey

JarvioJarvio EnglandPosts: 4,241MI6 Agent
1 - Moonraker - Clearly full of jokes, mainly with the Jaws stuff
2 - The Man With The Golden Gun - JW Pepper's return, slide whistle, Kung-fu girls, Nick Nack
3 - Octopussy - Bond pretending to be the living dead, hiss off, tarzan yell, clown/circus stuff in general
4 - The Spy Who Loved Me - Mainly the Jaws stuff again, although not as jokey as MR
5 - Live And Let Die - Basically JW Pepper's appearance
6 - A View To A Kill - California girls and the firetruck chase, but that's about it
7 - For Your Eyes Only - Just the Bibi scenes

Your opinions?

    Most Jokey:

    1. TMWTGG: JW Pepper returns!, slide whistle, Ku-Fu girls, Goodnight being a bimbo, squeezing sumo butt!
    2. Octopussy: tarzan yell, gorilla suit, tennis jokes, marketplace fight scene, zooming in on cleavage, the Muahaha laugh, Siit!/hiss-off, fake tiger roar, raiding the palace with acrobats and circus elephants. (and arguably the clown make up, although the scene is quite serious)

    Medium Jokey:

    3. Live and Let Die - JW Pepper. Slapstick car chases.
    4. For Your Eyes Only - Blofeld taunting, Bibi Dahl, Hockey fight w/goal buzzer, Thatcher impersonation

    Least jokey:

    5. Moonraker- Jaws flapping his arms, double-taking pigeon. (besides these 2 things I'm not aware of any other jokes)
    6. A View to a Kill - California Girls song, french taxi cab driver
    7. The Spy Who Loved Me - Roger making wisecracks while Jaws is wrecking their van

Other Notes: Octopussy is probably the most jokey, but thankfully it doesn't have any annoying characters like JW Pepper. That's why I put TMWTGG at #1 spot because JW takes up a lot of screen time, whereas most of the jokes in OP are only 1-2 seconds long.
    My current 10 favorite:

    1. GE 2. MR 3. OP 4. TMWTGG 5. TSWLM 6. TND 7. TWINE 8.DN 9. GF 10. AVTAK

What about the waiter spilling a drink on Lewis Gilbert's shoulder during the gondola scene

I didn't know that was Lewis Gilbert.

Anyway, I would put that incident in the same category of Victor Tourjansky's classic "looks at his bottle of wine"
(aka a very small joke that's actually funny)

For Your Eyes Only has more humour in it than Moonraker. A nose Q not a banana! Margaret Thatcher! I'll buy you an ice cream. The whole Bibi plot line.

TMWGG Bond is quite violent and Bond almost breaks Anders Arm.

Everyone knocks Moonraker but actually when they get to space it's quite serious in tone. I love Jaws' turn to the good side on learning his girlfriend is to exterminated if she doesn't match physical perfection. Jaws and his girlfriend sit on the exploding space station drinking champagne thinking that are going to die. Very sad and touching.

I am not a friend of all that list-mania - generally speaking - Moore handeled the balance between jokey elements and seriousness a lot better than many suggest here by pointing out only the silly parts.

He was better at that than any other actor - particularly better than Dalton, Craig and Lazenby and that brought a lot of success and money thruout his tenure.

I will always defend him and his films.

    -{ Agreed.
The silly Parts of the Moore films were put in by Directors and the Producers, who though they'd be funny.
Sadly many have not stood the test of time, where as ( In my opinion ) Moore's quips and timming will
always last and be appreciated By those who can. :D

Undoubtedly the producers, writers and directors are responsible for the silliness in the Moore films, and he plays them well, but they are still awfully silly and really don't measure up to the other Bond films (in my opinion, of course).

At any rate, I'm glad at least one other person on here feels the same way I do about Moonraker.

It's interesting that Jarvio and Chrisisall both rated MR as 'most jokey' and FYEO as 'least jokey', yet NeversayDie and myself both feel that FYEO has more humor attempts than MR. hmmmmm

MR is a pretty dark Film when you strip away all of the Jokes that do honestly plague it. It's always been one of my favorite Bonds due to it being one of the first I ever saw. The original Novel though, is a Masterpiece.

When they brought in Roger and cranked up the humor the audience only cried for more and they kept dishing it out. They knew he was no Connery (or even Lazenby) so they deferred to his good natured side.

The strange thing is that when the films did try to be more serious, Moore did do a decent job of playing it a little harder. However, the cast had already been set and had cured.

I appreciate the Moore tenure for what is was in retrospect, but being a Fleming fan, I will always be disappointed that EON decided to go for the slipping on the banana peel route while showing astonished onlookers as opposed to a more darkly humored road.
