I was wondering if anyone would know how good is Bond's choice of
champers :))
In Dr No when he says he prefers the 53 is this a great year or just a
refrence to the first book being published ?
Or the Bolly in MR 69, was that a good year or simply a joke on 69 ?

I don't know much about champagne, but I do know they say that, apart from vintage champagne, generally it goes off after 10 years. So the '69 would maybe be the best choice up to '79 when Moonraker was filmed; ditto the '53 may have been the best before '62 when Dr No aired...

Many years ago I bought my parents a bottle of Bolly at Heathrow for their 25th wedding anniversary. I simply bought the most expensive bottle of champers that I could afford, regardless of make, year etc. Many years later I Googled that bottle and discovered that it was actually a very good vintage indeed, and was also surprised to see that it had trebled in price on the secondary market. My parents did eventually drink it (long after their 25th: they were saving it for an even more special occasion!) and it tasted very good indeed...for what my taste is worth!
