Meeting & Dealing with Non-Bond fans.

in General James Bond Chat
Whenever you meet somebody who isn't a fan of James Bond 007, how do you handle the conversation? How do you deal with them? I usually end up keeping my mouth shut. It irks me that not everybody is fan of the James Bond movies, but what can I say? There's nothing I can do to change their minds...But whenever I am confronted with a non-Bond fan, however, I do tend to think less of them. I just can't help it. I love James Bond and anybody who doesn't is a snotty ne'er-do-well, in my not so humble opinion.

But don't let my contempt, for non-James Bond fans ruin your forum chatting experience. Please just let my hatred for non-Bond fans run down your back like water under a bridge.

    Just to clarify: Are you referring to people who specifically don't like James Bond ? (Bond is so lame. Those movies suck!)

    or do you mean anyone who isn't a fan? Example someone who has never even seen a Bond film ?

    eh its just their opinion, doesn't really irk me unless they trash it without having actually seen it.

    It doesn't bother me. Most women I know can't stand Bond, but a lot of people who don't like the movies have never really watched one, or they haven't watched a good one, so I offer to let them see something.

    He was obviously not talking to you specifically. Sometimes people use the word "you" in place of "one"

    i.e How could one not like Bond?

    Well I'm almost a grown-up now so I don't let it bother me...normally its a couple of minutes conversation and then left at that...its the same for sports teams...not everyone likes the team I support and I'm old enough to accept that...

    Maybe I've been lucky but I've yet to meet anyone who hates the Bond films.
    ( Although I am one big, ugly, fat Bar steward. So they might just be trying
    to keep me happy :)) )
    In fact there seems to be a great deal of love / affection for the films, with most
    people having a favourite Bond and film, with many memories of watching the
    " Big Bond Film " at christmas. {[]

    The closest I've come was a friend who was "proud" to never have seen one. I admit I was somewhat offended.

    I've personally never came across someone who dislikes the Bond Franchise, but if they dislike it then that's there Opinion.

    Contempt? Seriously?

    People have different likes and dislikes, end of story. Aside from being a Bond fan, I'm also a massive Star Trek fan, but there are people that don't like Star Trek, and that's fine by me. It only becomes a problem when they start trashing it.

    I do like Bond, but not because of his lifestyle. He does jobs that I could never do, being a paid assassin who does the dirty work for his government, cannot settle down with a family because of his job, and drinks heavily to cope with being surrounded by death.

    Although this thread is getting slightly surreal ("Are you talking to me?" spoken aloud in a De Niro voice competes favourably with "I taste their blood as it showers from my blade" :)) ), I don't have a problem if someone hates Bond. We all have different tastes in things as Sir Miles says, and even if someone does trash Bond, just smile and move on. It's always interesting though to find out what it is they don't like about Bond.

    I'm not in the slightest bit worried, although I am puzzled. I personally know women who hate all Bond films because they're sexist...even though they've never actually seen one. I personally know left-of-centres who don't like Bond films because they are war-mongering...even though they haven't actually seen one. I don't like Ultimate Fighting or Poker Tournaments on TV, so I don't watch them, so who am I to judge people's choices? As long as enough people continue to watch Bond to enable them to still make the films, I am happy. And considering how many people watched Skyfall, those who don't like Bond are in a very significant minority.

    I guess it's an age thing, people mellow out and to "hate" something like James Bond, well it's them with the problem, not the producers who make lots of lovely money and entertain people at the same time.
    I was an angry young punk 15 years ago, now I listen to things like Neil Young. **** happens, maaaan.
