Skyfall lodge ?

I was wondering if anyone knew if Skyfall is based on a real building or
a type of house found in the highlands, or completely made up for the
Film ?
As it looks very stark, so could be, a visual statement from the director
marching the rather bleak countryside.

It was completely made and designed for the film, with shot angles and script factored in.

Not sure who wrote that description on that website, but a few things made me laugh: a "weapons room," how about a "gun room" instead. "A swamp"...reminded me of the scene in 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail': '...the castle burned down, fell over and sank into the swamp...' Doesn't look much like a swamp to me. And finally, Bond's parents weren't buried '...in the chapel' but on the grounds. Sorry to be a pedant, but that's a lot of errors in a small article. That said, the location and construction of the set is correct.

Asp is right, Skyfall is completely fictional as a design.

However, I did a little digging, and in the same way Stourhead House is the real life inspiration for Creighton Manor, its clear that one of the Skyfall recces did have have an inspirational impact on the film to a certain degree.

There also appear to be architectrual influences from Victorian grand shooting Lodges, like The Mar Lodge.

Swamp?! What Swamp? Surely they didn't mean the Loch? Skyfall as a design is a bit odd to my eyes. Most of the shooting lodge style houses where I grew up (granted in the east, the other side of Scotland) usually had larger more open windows. Or, they were grand old houses bordering on Castle territory, with towers and turret detailing all over the place. Only much smaller lodge cottages (such as for the Ghille or the Groundskeeper) in the grounds or at the driveway entrance gates had narrower windows along the lines seen at Skyfall. - I'm no architect, and my history is rusty, but I always thought Skyfall Lodge looked a bit "one off" in style from that standpoint?

The sets in the Craig era, though relatively mundane and gritty, are almost as elaborate and large as the more flashy Ken Adams sets. The Macau casino was the most impressive set, while the temporary underground MI6 control centre was a more grungy, rundown retake of the shiny MI6 control centre in Quantum of Solace.
