I used to be so embarresed watching Alan as he was such a Bond fan
With his posters of Roger Moore. trying to say to myself " I'm not
Like that!, am I ? " )
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
Seeing these movies early on probably had a huge influence on me. Such that I try to be like Bond as much as possible. But I substitute many things. I think for the better. I drink cappuccino or Cuban coffee over standard coffee. But I want to find a good standard coffee. I want to find that jam too. I thought you guys would have found it by now.
No smoking. Never tried, never will. It was always like adult chewing gum to me but it was obvious the damage it causes. I don't mess with girls that smoke either. It's stupid to me.
I want to drive an Aston Martin but will probably never own a modern one because I don't like the current design direction. But I like "hard driving" as Dalton said in that one old interview.
I have a tendency of making bad puns a la Moore. )
I use Bond lines many times. Most people don't get it or find it humorous. Most don't immediately pick up that they are Bond lines.
I still wish I used a Bond line on this model that I beat in a front of class test. I didn't have that level of confidence then. After winning, I was going to say "for my next miracle, I'll take the pretty girl to lunch" or something like that.
I cant Breath! That had me in Tears of Laughter AS ) ) )
yes not the most glamorous side of constabulary duties ,but like agent sniper uk (reply22) have worked with both MI5 and MI6 and the SAS , and helped a little old lady safely to her home one night ,
Since you've experienced this work with these agencies, is there anything you've seen in the Bond series that has any authenticity to it or at least comes close to feeling that way? Did you ever discuss this with any of those you worked with? Do the Craig films have a contemporary authenticity on the tech side of the business?
Carried a Walther as a personal protection weapon, competent with small arms, been in car chases, did a building assault from a helicopter ( Westland Lynx, landed in a farm yard to raid the house looking for a suspect and weapons) drink vodka, shagged a lot before I got married. Been shot at and returned fire, been caught in an explosion (or two) .

My first name is Ian - so not in common with Bond but with his creator. Same height, eye color, hair color dark brown not black (and getting some grey). Wear similar clothing (though nothing from Savile Row). Enjoy the same foods and drink. Licensed diver and love snorkeling, I ski, love golf (wish my handicap were closer to Bond's) have done some rock climbing, have skydived because it was on my bucket list; my wife and I enjoy casino gambling and cards with our friends; own a Walther and Beretta; wear a Rolex Explorer (was my father's). I'm trained in judo, boxing (boxed in school) and Krav Maga, but have let my self slide for a few years and need to get back in shape; I was offered to be on the U.S. Navy Marksmanship Team when I was in basic training.
Wife and I got married on New Year's Day (though in New York City not Switzerland) and honeymooned in Jamaica where we visited Goldeneye and Noel Coward's residences.
My wife was nearly killed in a car accident on our first anniversary and
had complications near the end of that year and almost died a second time, so I can appreciated what Bond must have felt when Tracy was killed.
We have no children (by choice) - just a great cat.
My paternal grandparents were from Scotland. My maternal grandmother was from England and her husband from Scotland. Naturally, I have the black tie equivalent of the formal Highland dress and yes - I like haggis.
I served in the Navy in Europe and worked my entire tour in the offices of a NATO base, where we were in dress uniform except for the summer when we could be in our short sleeves (and the Brits were in their shorts).
Our uniform at that time looked like the officers and Chief Petty officers - black suit with metal buttons and white caps/black bills. It felt as though I was working at MI6 or in Fleming's wartime admiralty the entire time (we were still in the cold war with the Soviets). I got to work under a British Royal Navy captain who reminded me of M.
Have travelled to many of the same foreign spots that Bond has been (and stayed at the same places) for that very reason.
Heading towards sixty, but feel like a Bond in his late thirties. Have a few scars (one from an accidental near-death experience that I would not want to repeat).
Hey, I've had some pretty wild nights. Big monopoly games going on
Till nearly half past eleven, eating then not waiting for an hour before
going swimming. I can get pretty wild, I'll have you know !

Bond is fantasy, being shot at certainly sharpens the reactions, one looking for and taking cover and two ,trying to locate the firing point to return fire is a lot more difficult than in the movies !!!
Car chase either driving when you do not have time to think of anything else or as passenger when you are again concentrating on radio transmissions and trying to predict where they are going to get assistance to block them off.
Being caught in an explosion the only movie I have seen that comes close is Black Hawk Down when Ewan McGregors character is caught in the RPG blast and he is temporally deaf, stunned and confused.
Nothing in Bond comes close to reality, but it is good entertainment.
I'm no expert but I have a feeling most undercover/ security work, although
Necessary, and probably exciting for those taking part. Would look terribly
boring to a viewer. For instance much has been talked about in some threads
about the best firing stance ( I didn't even know there was more than one ) )
While I love Connery firing from the hip in the gypsy camp in FRWL. {[]. So
as SniperUK says " keep it entertaining " {[]

no if you ever talk to people in those relevant occupations about the relevancy about the Bond series they probably would look at you and think (rhymes with front ) the SAS did have a saying called yellow arse , because certain officers would say "oh this is how the SAS wear it ect , so the SAS saying was " if we painted our arses yellow " but the Mi5/6 officers I met were just like your dad
tweed jacket glasses ect I suppose that's why they blend in
However, to be honest, most of the times, I use a much more modern espresso machine.
I shave like Bond using a double edged safety razor, although not the brand novel Bond used - was it Gillette or Solingen?
I shoot a Walther (.22) sometimes.

Sometimes I drink my coffee as the novel Bond using a Chemex:

Me too, I drink black coffee.. and couldn't live without my espresso machine.
Now does drinking Vespers / vodka Martinis on a semi regular basis count....?
