Which DVD/Blu-ray set is best?

GoldenEye85GoldenEye85 Posts: 278MI6 Agent
I know just about every time a new Bond movie comes out, either in the theater or on DVD, sometimes both, a new collection set is released with all of the previous movies in it.

I know the last two have only been on Blu-ray. The set that came out for Quantum of Solace was a Blu-ray version of the four box set that came out during Casino Royale, same arrangement too I think. The set for Skyfall was the 50th Anniversary in what looks like a book of some kind.

So this brings me to my question. I'm wanting to get the whole set of official movies on ONE format someday, seeing how it's probably not going to go back to normal DVD, which Blu-ray set is better in terms of how the discs are stored and the content on them?

I have them strung out over a few sets.
1, GE 2, CR 3, SF 4, TWINE 5, Spectre 6, TMWTGG 7, DAD 8, LALD 9, AVTAK 10, LTK 11, Octopussy 12, Moonraker 13, TLD 14, GF 15, QOS 16, Tomorrow 17, FYEO 18. TSWLM Not seen much: Dr. No, Russia, Thunderball, Twice, Majesty.

1: Brosnan 2: Craig 3: Moore 4: Dalton 5: Connery and 6: Lazenby

I know that, but that isn't what I'm asking. I'm asking which Blu-ray set is better? The '08 version or the current version. In terms of how the discs are stored and the content on them.

I have the metal look cube complete collection dvd box set from 09/10? It includes CR-06 and QoS in their own cover designs alongside the uniform black ones of the Sir Sean - Mr Brosnan films. It was a good Christmas when I was given that!

I also have the 3 disc special collectors dvd set of Casino Royale, another Chrristmas gift. Its my favorite of all the films so I am very pleased to have that. I am not rushing to Bluray, standard Dvd does me fine.
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

I've got Dr. No through Octopussy on VHS I think they're from a set too, minus Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever, and The Man with the Golden Gun. These, along with The Living Daylights, and The World is Not Enough, which are in the Ultimate James Bond collection, released during Casino Royale's time in theaters.

The rest are in the set released during Die Another Day's time in theaters. View to Tomorrow. Die Another Day, I have the original release, minus the slip cover, I bought it on one of the cheap racks at Walmart and it had a similar cover on it to the Ultimate James Bond collection, but it was only a card slapped on to the front cover.

Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, I have their original releases. Casino, I bought the Walmart release, which came with both playing cards used in the main card game of the movie. It also came with one poker chip, but I lost that a long time ago.

Skyfall, I mistakenly bought the Blu-ray edition, so I get to only use the extra normal DVD that came in it.

I just upgraded to Blu-Ray last week. Not going to update my DVD Ultimate Collection. I did update my three Craig movies though. Best Buy has a three disk set called the Craig Collection. For $20 I said what the heck. I bought them and gave my three Craig DVDs to my Uncle. I don't see anything special about these disks. I've only watched a small part of Skyfall. The picture looks to be clearer. The title sequence looked Phenomenal. I'll have to sit and watch Casino Royale here in the next day or three.

If you remember back in '08, a number of Bond films weren't available on Blu (YOLT, OHMSS, DAF, TSWLM, OP, AVTAK, TLD, GE and TND), so the obvious answer would be the Bond 50 set.

That's a nice cover art for TLD. The Blu-Ray 50 set is absolutely amazing, but I do miss some of the cool new cover art.

I really like the Bond 50 Blue-Ray set and as said, they are neatly arranged in two books according to the two main Bond eras, which then fit into a relatively thin slip case; believe me, this makes for a very efficient way of storing and it provides much, much easier access. I like how everything for each movie is contained in one disc, vs. the recent DVD sets in which each movie had 2 discs, which is less convenient; so, with 2 discs per movie, each one had it's own little case and that made for a big-bulky box and it was a pain having to rifle through the cases to find the movie you need. My only gripe is a minor one, in how the discs are too snuggly bound in their slots, which on the other hand is a fair trade-off to economize the space because making them easier to access as done with other box sets, they'd need to create thermoformed, internal plastic holders that would make a 20-plus disc collection too bulky to store.

An aside, I have a rant about the menu navigation within each disc, which was cute then, but is now wearing thin on me. Hope they get rid of that for a more streamlined menu when the Hologram edition comes out.

Cool, thanks for the insight everyone.

Do you think we'll ever get normal DVD sets again? Also, anyone surprised that we didn't get a non-blu-ray 50th anniversary set?

By the time I'm able to buy them, the next set will be out.

Is it the same as the ultimate edition DVD menu? With the slow moving dice and long wait times? X-(

I hate how the UE editions force you to sit through that bloody thing and the notice about the audio commentaries EVERY TIME you press play! The special editions might've had shonky menus but at least you were taken straight to the film.
