sticks to vodka. Happily no matter what I drink, ........... I simply fall asleep

Gin makes me very sarcastic and nasty, to friend-losing levels. I haven't touched it in 20 years. No, make that 30 (I'm old). Vodka never has done anything for me on any level. Whisky, though....
Two of my close friends become lecturers when drunk, often amusingly (one actually is a teacher, the other was a university lecturer for a while). Another (who I don't see anymore) became paranoid. My best pal simply becomes more himself, as do I. As I said, in vino veritas!... Now, where's my guitar...?
In vino veritas really is me when under the influence, though I can honestly say I've always used alcohol relatively sensibly, even as a young man. I've never fallen over drunk and latterly only really drink as a relaxant. Due to a previous profession I never got drunk in public only in the company of trusted people and in safe places. But I still tend to get more humorously tactless and " honest" the more I drink.
Does what you drink (rather than how much) have any effects?
Yes very much, my preferred drinks are a peroni, which just seems to relax me and not get me drunk, whisky or jack Daniels, which will intensify whatever mood I'm in, so if I'm in a bad mood it will get worse or if I'm jovial vice versa, and red wine which eventually turns me into righteous master debater ( in my own mind). I do manage my drinking though and Mrs coop is a very infrequent drinker, I'm happy with a couple of lagers these days and a Macallan or jd or two after.
Peroni or Morretti, I've spent a lot of time in Italy and got quite accustomed to the Italian beers. I worked a lot in Corfu and drank nothing but Amstell lager there.... That and jd and brandy Alexanders

Definitely. In college I discovered that gin & vodka made me very physical (wanting to climb bloody great trees and buildings and such- my fear of heights melted away), wine made me VERY happy just sitting, but VERY sad the next morning, and beer made me really hungry & want to watch movies.
So I stuck with beer. )

I’ve also spent time in Italy so Peroni and Moretti are my beers of choice. In London they’re priced as premium beers but in Italy they’re cheap, which always makes me chuckle.
In general I’m more of a Vodka or wine drinker, just can’t enjoy gin or whisky that much, and I shy away from sambuca - the only time I tried it, it completely changed my personality.

It's odd really the pricing of some beers, in Venice a few years ago I remember thinking exactly that, sat in a top hotel drinking Morretti at 4 euros, brought to the table by a man in a bow tie with nibbles constantly brought too, but in a no mark bar in Leeds city centre you'd pay £ 6 and have to jostle at the bar for the privilege!

When I was a lot younger gin had that effect on me.
I didn't touch it for years. I only started again when gin came into vogue and I've been fine this time round.
Years of practise has made me immune
