Tom Ford Kazan coat question

Hello fellow Bond addicts.
After a rather complicated registration process (didn't get the activation email with two different email accounts, my third worked though!) i am very happy to be here.
I'm interested in ordering a MTO/MTM TF Kazan coat. Some time this year i'll try to visit a TF store but they told me over the phone already that coat try-ons (for fitting) don't exist and that this particular model doesn't get ordered a lot. As i live in Germany i thought it would be best to ask a few questions here first rather than ordering without proper knowledge.

- is the current MTO/MTM cut the same as the one used in QOS at the end?
- was the original coat made of a stiff and/or heavy type of fabric? I don't want the coat to look like a typical cashmere coat if you know what i mean and
- i remember reading a post about different TF fabrics and their use on coats(weight and so on) but i can't find it anymore.

Help would be greatly appreciated. :)

I tried using both my t-online email that comes from my internet provider and my gmx but only my googlemail address worked.
The message at the end of the registration process however told me that i would get an email.

    Worked out in the end. -{

    Hey all,

I have been enquiring about the possibility of getting the TF Kazan Coat, so far the news is positive in that the coat design is still available on a MTM from TF.

The not so good news is that the fabric for the original coat is no longer available. I have been able to get some pics of similar swatches.

I have compared these to the pictures of Mantis's coat:

At the moment I am still considering which fabric to use, whilst it will not be the exact fabric I am looking to have a practical winter coat that will maintain quality in inclement weather.

Will keep you all updated on any developments

The question I will ask probably is equivalent to the one you ask how much a Rolls drinks: how much is it? :D

(the thing in common between these two is the same answer: if you ask you can't afford it! Still wanna now though!)

The original fabric was called 'British Herringbone' and it is a heavyweight 100% virgin wool (over 20oz), so of the two fabrics you have, the heavier one is closer weight wise, but not a herringbone by the looks of it.
Owning the SA coat in the herringbone, but having also tried it on in a lighter weight 16oz navy wool, I have to say that the lighter coat would have worked better as a more versatile overcoat.
In the heavier SA fabric, this is a coat for zero degrees conditions, otherwise, it's too warm.

    Depending on fabric 4,100 Euros

    Hey all,

A very merry christmas to fellow AJBers!

Apologies for being away (not enjoying death, unless you count studying for an MSc!!!), anyway back in August I was considering getting the Kazan coat, as has already been mentioned the fabric is no longer available, and the cut has changed ever so slightly. Well after my post I was contacted by a very generous AJB member who offered for sale a spare TF Kazan coat, it was the correct fabric in the correct cut, the only downside was that it was a size TF48, and I normally take a TF46 (sometimes a TF44), but I thought it could be possible to alter it down.

Before I commenced my journey to get this coat altered I have to do a commentary of the coat

First of all this is a fantastic coat, everything about it, the cloth, the cut, the buttons, the stitching and design is beautiful

Here's the front of the coat:

Here's the back, and yes all the buttons are working

    DSC_0038.jpg

The coat has a nice A-frame design just like the TF polo made for QOS

And if you get in real close you can make out the herringbone pattern which can be seen in the film:

(along with a very nice Tom Ford Mahogany hanger)

The buttons are brilliant and if you turn them around, I don't know if the camera can capture it but it does say Tom Ford

Here's the interior with the Tom Ford logo, just in case you've forgotten who you've bought it from:

Well the coat was a little too big for me, so I went to the Tom Ford store in London and like everyone who's visited any Tom Ford store can testify that the sales associates are very knowledgeable with a discerning eye for detail. Well I had a consultation with the in house tailor and got measured up, the initial assessment was that it was possible but deemed "risky". Tom Ford assisted by sending the coat to Italy to get the master tailors to review and see if they could make the alterations. A few weeks later and I got the disappointing news that Tom Ford would not be able to do the alteration, they said it was possible but risked altering the Tom Ford design.

I was a little downbeat but the guys at Tom Ford London didn't give up, they provided me the details of a tailor in Savile Row who they use to do alterations, even arranged an appointment. The tailors were really good, after the consultation they said they could alter the coat down and it should take about a week.

Well a week went and I went to try on the coat, and it fits well especially when wearing a suit. So what did I have done, the sleeve came up about 1.5'', the shoulders came in by 0.5'', the back came in by 1'', and the skirt of the coat came up by 3'', the results speak for themselves:

The coat is brilliant and it gets fantastic comments, it was really insulating when we had a cold snap here in London a few weeks ago. The Savile Row tailors said that this is going to be a long lasting coat, not only because of the fabric but the design is classic and timeless.

I will end this post by thanking the generous member who offered for sale this coat, so Mr David "Mantis" Zaritsky many many thanks for making this Bond fan's dream come true in getting this coat.
