AJB is NOTHING without its members and contributors and I'm very happy when people decide to give to the community - be it ideas, information, projects or whatever...a little bit of understanding from all parties can go a long way...I think the majority of people here understand that...sometimes some don't - or just make a bad judgement call...

Higgy-baby...my sympathies to you and my enormous gratitude and respect to you for backing this project in the first place. Even if you financially broke even, you'd still be at a mega-loss when it came to time spent on it. So my thanks. I am sorry that it has become a problem, although so many of these things tend to I find, either through misfortune or malcontents.
When I have sold things on eBay I have always stated that items are sent regular mail - unregistered and uninsured - at the buyer's risk. If the buyer is not happy with that, then they can pay the considerable extra cost of registered/trackable/insured for their own piece of mind. So far, it has worked, but again, that might be luck rather than my policy. This matches your new policy. I wish you luck and sincerely hope that it's smooth sailing from here on out.
Now seriously regarding your suggestion of registering/insuring/trackable:
The postage would be then far higher than the pin itself.
Additionally this will force me to keep all the receipts for weeks and months.
International tracking from here is a nightmare and people would constantly ask me for a status/update etc which i can't provide.
And in the case that something is getting lost, it will mean hours of filling out papers, running after the german post, providing paperwork and declarations, running after them on and on - all this for a GBP3,-- pin!
I am totally with you on expensive items, but for that amount of money?
I should have followed a private remark from a friend today and price them with GBP 10 or 20 and call it a day.

You hit the nail on the head. The reality is, if a buyer is forced to pay GBP10 or something for registered/trackable/insured postage on a GBP3 item...they just won't. But, because the decision not to was theirs and the alternative is that if it gets lost the responsibility is also theirs, it at least lets the buyer be truly aware from the outset that if it does get lost they can't go back to you looking for a replacement or refund.
Unlike dealing with a complete stranger on eBay, your integrity is beyond reproach. Given your long history on AJB and the people on here who can attest to your character and the fact that this project was a public-service exercise and not an effort to make money, no one should ever think that you never mailed a pin or are out to rip people off.
The big mistake that I've made was that I assumed that Forum Mates would understand the non-profit nature of this venue and therefore would understand that I won't be able to cover a potential loss.
Instead of this, I am being held liable for the loss and am being called out for having mislead people here.

Think this summarizes why these projects are often a thankless task and always a pain in the backside to the project starter who always seems to end up out of pocket!!
Great community here and thankful these projects get started in the first place.
How about a contest to distribute the remainders? Contests are fun to participate in and watch... how about a "design a Bond watch contest"? Seriously.

SHIPPING OF YOUR PIN WILL BE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!
I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING LOST IN THE MAIL.
I could not imagine that Forum Mates would hold each other liable for postage losses and I had to learn it the hard way.
If you can't agree with this, please refrain from ordering AJB pins.
