I am amazed that you think someone should be suspended for something that is penalized by a warning or at most a yellow card. If Krul or Robben did anything that is so out of the ordinary that it should be followed by a suspension I assume (and hope) that the FIFA and referee will enforce the rules hard and fair.

Yeah I also agree that the CR / Dutch penalty shootout was pure luck and not some tactical genius decision by LVG which the manure fans are clinging too. I think I would have saved a few of them myself as they were all going to the keepers left and in the end it was getting obvious and tedious to watch. In saying that the Dutch were the deserved winners overall in 120 mins playing time though CR had some chances.
As for Kruls behaviour, well its unsporting but I've seen it happen before with the keeper having "words" with the penalty taker etc nothing new but he was being a bit more obvious about it.
My prediction of one of the big ones (Argentina or Brazil) going out in the Quarters failed, though my head predicts this time they will both go out (Argies especially with their dodgy defence and reliance on Messi) however I also have this feeling there might be some unjust referee decision that might favour Brazil in their game against Germany (I guess we are due more ref controversy!)

Fair enough. My "genius" comment was a bit OTT and is only "true" with the benefit of hindsight. What I probably should have said was that Van Gaal's decision was certainly gutsy and somewhat out-of-the box. He obviously planned it beforehand -- not often you see a team with a sub to spare after 119+ minutes. Especially risky because, as you say, it could have blown up in his face. I can't speak to his tenure in Munich (and as I said before I have no love lost for Man Utd) but despite his outsized ego I would rather have a manager like that than one who defaults to playing it safe because it's easier to deflect blame that way.

Have to agree with that - I'd rather fail trying something than to just watch it all slide away...
I thought vG's substitution was daring in as much as if it had failed he would have been pilloried. As others have said, full marks to him for doing it despite the massive criticism he would have received if Krul had faltered slightly on even one kick - ie: the ball trickling between his legs as he toppled over backwards distracted by someone in short-shorts in row 3!
For the first time in my life, I'm just not excited by the semi-finals. Unless things change massively, I just don't expect either match to be a classic. The only hope we have for a great game between now and Sunday is if it's Brazil v Argentina in the Final...and only then because there's a good chance it will be the first ever final to end with only four players left on the pitch for each side and half of Rio on fire outside.
