Congratulations to the German team and the German nation - you are very worthy winners! Hold your heads high! You are world masters and the best team in the tournament has won. -{ -{ -{

Some thpoughts about yesterday's match:
We knew that Brazil was absolutely crushed after the first goals and that it would be totally different to play against the Argies.
Götze: He made the golden goal, so everything is forgotten!
Schweinsteiger: It was impressive to see his fighting spirit. I guess that you have to shoot him down with a gun to take him out of the match. At the end - everyone expected a change but I was sure that he'd return and save his chance in case that there was a penalty shootout
Kramer: What a debut! With him, Gündogan, Reuss, Götze, Müller, Draxler, the Bender twins and others we are seeing a bright future for our team
Klose: Called "Grandpa" by the other players: Probably the greatest tournament player that we ever had - even better than Gerd Müller!
Müller: He's Müller!
Did anyone see Özil btw?
The Argies fought like tigers with one exception: Messi!
I know that he's able to be the sleeper for 89 minutes and kill in the one minute but imo that has nothing to do with football!
The way that he proverbially walked thru the final was arrogant, lazy und highly unfair to all his teammates.
Football means work, run, fight and not stay in the middle and wait for a lucky and skilled punch.
Glad that this plan did not work out and he deserved the golden cucumber for this lame performance.
Anyhow:

Özil was playing
Messi just wasn't fit...simple as...
Schweinsteiger was awesome...he added a whole new level to his game that I didn't think he had...
The future is bright for Germany...they just need a striker now !
The easy reply would be: Marco Reuss (who was unfortunately injured for the worldcup).
But football is not as simple as Liverpool fans think!
We played well against Portugal and Brazil without a proper striker and when teams build 2 defensive walls it's difficult to serve a true striker.
IMO the future will show that people like Schürrle and Messi are the newer thing. They run over the defense and create chances that way. They are far more important that true strikers.

A few of us played golf on holiday. We were so bad
At every tee, we had to let other people " play through " )
In fact we didn't make all 18 holes, and wandered off
To the bar. )

Late with my comments, but you know old Hilly can't resist the chance to be a long-winded know-it-all!
Thus...thoughts on the final:
-- Despite the dearth of goals, I found it quite entertaining. Good back-and-forth for most of the game, with Argentina actually looking far more dangerous for much of the time, which I had not anticipated.
-- Wow, Higuain blew a couple of golden opportunities. That fluffed shot after the Kroos mistake was as bad as it gets.
-- I think you're a little harsh on Messi, Bondtoys. I don't think it was a lack of effort -- he simply didn't have a great game. And lest we forget, the like of Hummels, Boateng and Lahm are a good step above the La Liga defenses he faces regularly.
-- That said, his Golden Ball was a joke, and he obviously knew that, judging from his reaction. I would have given it to Neuer.
-- Coming in, the story on Argentina was a myriad of scary options up front, but weak at the back. The exact opposite turned out to be the case -- they struggled to score, but their defense was fantastic.
-- Brilliant ball in from Schurrle, and an extraordinary finish from Gotze. So many Germans had a great World Cup, but one could argue that Schurrle had the best tournament of anyone. Certainly he did relative to incoming expectations.
-- My favorite image from after the game: While all the German players were hugging each other, their WAGs or their children (Podolsky), Hummels just lay back on the turf with a dazed look of rapture on his face. At one point, his WAG came and sat with him -- on him, actually. The look of joy and exhaustion on his face was truly wonderful.
Overall, a thrilling tournament with lots of iconic moments and a fully deserving winner. {[]
We now return to our regularly scheduled programming...which for me means going back to being a Newcastle supporter. )
You do wonder what might have been for Argentina if Tevez was in that final.
He is obviously a bit of a "Baloteli" disruptive wise for the squad so understand why he was not picked for the WC squad but you do feel he would have put one of those chances away, Aguero was a waste this tournament due to his injuries etc

I was being nice - for once - I just think Germany need a striker - and not one pinched from Poland or Turkey for a change )
