Formula or cliche? And which should we expect in Bond 24?

I wouldn't mind seeing Bond back in uniform (Craig sure has the haircut for it). It might be interesting to see Bond reunited with some of his old SBS buddies for a mission.

Did Connery ever wear a uniform other than the burial scene in YOLT? I think Brosnan wore a uniform, but I am far from being a Brosnan expert.

To the Connery question--no; to Brosnan--yes, he wore a uniform in TND.

    I like a man in uniform :v

A uniformed Bond is long overdue.

I like the Somali pirates idea ... would be a good PTS. Don't think there would be enough for a whole film.

That way its topical and cliched/formula at the same time ;)

Craig in Uniform.... I would pay double the entry fee for that :x

*sigh* - that's made my rather rubbish afternoon much more tolerable :D

He would look fabulous in a uniform. Just the right look.

Brosnan just didn't look right. Neither did Moore.

Craig's Bond has done plenty of Naval gazing.

IMO Connery, Moore, and Brosnan all looked convincing in uniform. The only thing that marred the look for PB was a little too much hair coming out of the back of his cap (but excusable as he was not "active duty"). Moore really presented himself well in uniform...his posture and the way he carried himself with the uniform were spot-on military officer. A ha, just checked Moore's bio.... not surprising as he actually was a 2nd Lt in the Royal Army.

The screen Bond in uniform is a bit of a problem for me.

Though I'd enjoy seeing the character in uniform in the proper setting, the problem is I don't think there ever was one and cannot think of one where it would be appropriate. Why? Because Bond is a spy.

In all the past films, it seemed to me there was absolutely no reason for him to have had to wear a uniform. Even in YOLT, it didn't make any sense for M and Moneypenny to be wearing them either. Even in TSWLM, Moore is mentioned having served on the "Ark Royal" - what nonsense. Bond was not a naval ship officer - he would have still been an intelligence officer. Yes, M is supposed to have been an admiral and is referred by this title by his staff at home, but he was no longer an active duty Royal Navy officer. He became head of the Service - a civil service position. The same is with Bond. Fleming gave him his own rank - a commander in the RNVR - but as with M he is a civil servant. There is no occasion I can think of in their line of duty in the Service where they would be required to wear the uniform they had when in the RN or RNVR. It would be like a US Navy commander joining the CIA clandestine services. It what situation would he need to wear his old kit? Bond never wore his uniform in the novels.
