Would he be consider the best Bond ? and if he'd continued would they have toned the movies down since LTK was a serious/revenge type Bond

In the direction they went. As with GoldenEye etc, a lighter touch and big
Action sequences.
They took a chance with LTK and the audience after years of Roger Moore
Weren't ready it would only be with the reboot that they felt cconfident
Enough to " go for it again ", and luckily this time the audience was ready.

Remember in an interview he described how Bond was a flawed man
with many demons, which he hoped to explore. So perhaps he was
Trying to get closer closer to the Bond of the novels.
So I think he could have been very good in TLD and LTK sounds the
Kind of film he wanted to make.
Sadly, its one of those things we'll never know.
EON and the 007 franchise would not exist anymore
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
I doubt that would be true...but we will never truly know...who knows - he may have become your favourite Bond :v
I think he already is up there with Connery as the best. As Bond, I think he is every bit the equal of Connery, albeit that Connery is a better actor and has far greater presence on screen. From this Fleming purist's perspective, both of his performances, as well as Connery's first two, is very much in the same mould as the Fleming Bond, which is always a good thing. Although his role as Bond has been rather short lived, I think he has more than proved himself in those two films, much like Connery had in his first two performances.
Different name, same old rubbish ... X-(
Even if that were true, I'd rather it finished with a bang. Licence to Kill was a brilliant film and if the series were to end there, I would not be disappointed.
We may have totally different opinions on that but I fail to see the point where I have called your opinions 'rubbish'
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
I actually can get behind this statement but for different reasons.
I loved TLD (not a big fan of LTK), and I don't even have an issue with Dalton. I think the issue is that Dalton wasn't a face that can carry a franchise as big as Bond. I like his portrayal, but when it comes right down to it he has very strange looks (at least to me personally) and part of this franchise is about appearances.
I would liken it to Zlatan Ibrahamovic vs Ronaldo (since I know your side of the pond may appreciate that analogy much better). Both fantastic players, but one of them has the look to carry brands and endorsements.
Just my two cents. My opinion, and just that, an opinion. (I know where these Dalton conversations go and they can get a little nasty).
But Tim? I really don't think GoldenEye would have worked for him, so what would the direction be?
TMWTGG was not overlay successful but after Harry's departure, Cubby was committed to do his own thing - with Roger.
And it turned out to be a full hit!
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
It's difficult to tell which kind of films Dalton would have really excelled at - he has neither the lighter touch of Moore and Brosnan, nor the believable toughness of Connery and Craig.
Though he is excellent and very watchable in Penny Dreadful, and he didn't make a bad Bond at all - just not quite as brilliant as the others... But just my opinion. {:)
You're really coming along, ) )
Well I turned 60 today, so it's about time I'm finally beginning to learn something. )
Feel free to pop into the " Silencer and bra strap " I'll open a bottle
Of " Phu Yuk " )
Many thanks, TP!
You have reached now an age where wisdom should lead you to the conclusion that Dalton was not so great
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
Thank you, good buddy! And contrary to your well-meaning, but misguided assessment of the wisdom that has come to me with age, the years have taught me that I had it right about Dalton all along. May such wisdom come your way as well, young grasshopper! )
Many of us had been waiting for years for a return to the Connery-esque Bond film and had long grown tired of the Moore campiness and the predictability. But Dalton didn't quite fit naturally into the role. The qualities that made him work well in other venues, such as Shakespearean roles, didn't seem to fit Bond. While people appreciated that he wasn't doing the gags as much, Dalton's inability to handle humor well also was problematic. He had a darkness to him -- and Roger Ebert, if I recall correctly, even described his face as saturnine -- that made him a turn off to the ladies in particular. If Dalton had continued, I think he would have gotten better. Goldeneye seems much more in keeping with his strengths.
That's good enough for Me )
Thank you, my friend. :007)
Many thanks, good buddy! I'm working on it!
yes BL why are you on this site with us sad g*ts when you should be out getting sh*t faced in DC )
With age comes wisdom - we just have to keep reminding these whippersnappers that Connery was they best Bond and they'll eventually see sense )
Have a great celebratory evening! :007)
