Octopussy by far. Perpetually the 2nd lowest ranked Moore film. It's too bad a 5 second scene completely ruins the movie for most people. Granted, there's many silly moments in OP, but there's so much fun to be had.
I must be the only guy who loves every silly moment in OP, including the Twang sound when the tennis racquet breaks the guy's head. ) ...and the money going to the beggar, and it goes on
It's either "A View To A Kill" or "Licence To Kill"
both have a very small fanbase what is quite a pitty since the both are the best of the 80's.
It actually seems like they have fairly large fanbases from what I've seen on here recently. I personally don't care so much for either, but I think the other three Bond films of the 80s are three of the best in the series.

Agreed. OP might be one of the most underrated in the series, actually.

haha I wouldn't even go as far as saying that OP is underrated. everybody I know enjoys it
"You see Mr.Bond, you can't kill my dreams...but my dreams can kill you.Time to face destiny" - "Time to face gravity"
Ill turn this one around by telling you what movie that is often highly regarded by fans is lower on my list than most people would expect. I underrate FYEO, for some reason I don't like it as much as other more serious entries in the series and the movie as a whole leaves me underwhelmed.
The reason I think all of the 80s Bonds get bad reviews is simple - John Glen. Lazy choice for director and a crap one at that. Didn't didn't do anything that hadn't been done before, broke no new ground and even recycled old Moore scripts when Daton took over.
Most underrated film of the decade IMO is definitely LTK. Straight out of Fleming and I loved it. Pity it couldn't save the series after a decade of abuse from Glen.
What? lol
I respect your opinion but I thought John Glen was the best director, alongside Peter Hunt. I love their style of directing, and they kept Bond more serious, realistic and less comedic. For Your Eyes Only, The Living Daylights and Licence To Kill were terrific in terms of Glen's directorial performance. Realistic, hard-edged, cold war, serious and entertaining. I have a soft spot for A View To A Kill as well, just out of personal preference. Octopussy was the one film where Glen actually did disappoint me, but it was still good nevertheless.
I would say a View to a Kill. Great villain/henchwoman and a fun ally. Some cool action sequence and some funny moments too. There is a lot of things wrong with it but it is still a fun film to put on and enjoy for what it is. I would say it is the most underrated of the 80's but it still isn't too high up there for me in the grand scheme of things.

And that sums it up perfectly fo me, never knew when to leave a joke out . Worst director of them all and he made more Bonds than any other.

If it's specifics you want, then Glen was single handedly responsible for the double take pigeon in Moonraker, the Tarzan scream in Octopussy, Blofeld and Thatcher appearing in FYEO, California Girls/Snowboard in AVTAK, and the Magic Carpet Ride in TLD - which I appreciate was left out.
Although I love LTK and consider it the most under rated, the annoying ceramic fish wink at the end is doubtless attributed directly to Glen.
All in all a sorry state of affairs. I'm amazed he didn't kill the series off altogether!
just out of curiousity: why is everybody so upset with the blinking fish (all small scenes really: I mean MR in general is OTT but it's the pigeon where people complain) ?:)

1. For Your Eyes Only 2. The Living Daylights 3 From Russia with Love 4. Casino Royale 5. OHMSS 6. Skyfall
I respect that people take the Bond movies very seriously - I do!
But people mostly forget that the movies are at first business!
Bond movies are done for the contemporary moviegoer.
It's hard for me to understand that people are not able to "forgive" some minor imperfections or moments that are trying to brighten up the intensity of the movie.
It's also funny to see how many people are ignorant to the fact that movies in the 80s had to be different than in the 2020s.
Instead of being a bit tolerant to these factors, some not perfect seconds* in a movie are being blown up to "worst directing ever" or such.
It's about time that people brighten up and relax a bit.
* Tarzan yell, California Girls, Slide wistle and the Dink-buttslap come to mind.
President of the 'Misty Eyes Club'.
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
If it's specifics you want, then Glen was single handedly responsible for the double take pigeon in Moonraker, r!
How was he when Lewis Gilbert was the director and Albert R Broccoli the producer?
I was thinking the exact same thing! But it shows what a terrible influence Glen had on the Bond movies. He was even able to ruin the movies he didn't direct! Just goes to show that you learn something new everyday as a member of AJB.
Come on, Glen directed fantastic movies such as For Your Eyes Only (my favourite Bond movie), The Living Daylights and Licence To Kill and he was part of the discussion to put Bond back to basics for the 80's. It was Lewis Gilbert who was responsible for outlandish plots in Spy and Moonraker but I am not complaining.
I'd say Richard Maibaum and Christopher Wood were more responsible for Moonraker. If Glen had decided in the editing suite then it was to tie up with Lewis Gilberts Bond motif for Moonraker..

I completely agree. But I also think Glen's Bond films hold up particularly well today, better than the films of the 70s or the 90s.
Yeah it's funny how a short scene ruins a movie for some people, especially the general public and the first example listed:
OHMSS - Bond gets married?!! ZOMG Bond doesn't marry, OHMSS is the worst movie!
TMWTGG - Side whistle - bleh, bottom rank!
MR - Pigeon, ppffft, last place
OP - Tarzan yell, crap movie
LTK - 2 second wink. Piece of crap
It's also funny for serious fans to compare every single frame of the movie to Fleming's novels and if it doesn't meet their standards of "Flemingesque" they hate the movie.

Anyway, OP must be Glen's comedic touches done right.
