It was to set all the stuff into play- the shooting of Bond, his fake demise, his resurrection and all that. Silva was gifted.
And probably a mutant.
Of course, but it's still lazy screenwriting because it doesn't make much sense. It would have made more sense if rather than steal a piece of hardware, Patrice simply had knowledge in his head. Then they couldn't just go and kill him outright. But that's what I mean about Logan being underwhelming.
My favorite bit is when Bond is right next to Patrice in the SUV, and rather than take a shot, he banters with Moneypenny and then for some reason just steers the Range Rover into the other car to knock it off the road. 1. For an assassin, Bond doesn't seem all that interested in killing Patrice. That certainly would have been the easiest way to stop him and, if necessary, recover the hard drive.
But, then, we're supposed to believe that Silva is so doggone clever, that he is able to set into motion his evil plan exactly because Patrice is able to escape from Bond. 2. Oh, wait, he could have accomplished the same thing by just hacking into the hard drive . . . which apparently was more beyond his means than getting into MI:6's network.
1. Ordinarliy it's better to capture bad guys than kill them because then you can question them, which is much more difficult to do when they're dead.
2. Silva wasn't able to hack into MI:6's network until after Q downloaded the hard drive.
And yet M was perfectly contented to allow Moneypenny to shoot Silva. It doesn't make much sense, particularly as Bond seems to waffle between killing Patrice and taking him prisoner. Apparently, the British Secret Service is also able to track Patrice to the degree that they know what flight he will be on, and so forth, but not who is working for or whatever they might want him alive to question. Again, the writing makes the technology stunningly accurate one moment and completely vague and random the next.
Silva was able to get into M's laptop without any problem just a few scenes later, and he used his talents to cause explosions.

Didn't that information come from the Americans ? So, apparently, the British Secret Service weren't able to do that
I really don't like it when people get basics wrong like this to try and prove their point X-(

1. Moneypenny tried to shoot Patrice but hit Bond. Not aware that she also hit Silva.

But . . . they still got it, didn't they? How does that invalidate my point?
I also still don't see how this invalidates the overall point that the script for Skyfall is not that good.

2. M's laptop is not the same as MI-6's servers.
3. London Public Works is not the same as MI-6.
1) Yeah, that's obviously a typo since I referenced Patrice in the very next sentence. Regardless, it doesn't change the fact that the policy on killing Patrice or taking him prisoner seems to change at any moment in that scene.
2) Yeah, but people are saying that laptops can't be hacked . . . even though Silva clearly hacks M's laptop. If he's that gifted, why can't he hack the one Patrice stole the hard drive from?
3) So, you're saying that Silva didn't hack into the MI:6 safety protocols but just the gas company's? Wow, it's good to know all of any high-security installation can be blown up simply by going through a utility company.
Given that Blofeld could fund his own private space programme in YOLT
You'd wonder why he'd bother with crime if he had that sort of money. )
But when watching the film ..... I don't care, it's Bond film logic. -{
In many ways if you dislike a film, you'll pick at it. Where as if if you like it
You'll be very forgiving.
I used to cut QOS to bits, until After many viewings, I began to warm to it and
Somehow, all those little niggles, just fade away. )
So has the film changed, or I. ( that's a bit deep ) )
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
Well, Blofeld was being bankrolled by China rather than using his own money. But most films fall apart if analysed too closely- there's a lot of examples out there, and a good few articles at such sites as "Cracked".
I think that " being bankrolled " by the Chinese story, was just a tax
Dodge from Blofeld. )
Not just individual films but whole genres of films have " mistakes" that
Have to be put in to stick to the rules of the genre for instance, in
Horror films the victim has to run upstairs ! No matter how fast you run,
The slow walking killer will always catch up with you ) .
Happily I'm one of those dumb bast*rds who buys a big popcorn with
An even bigger Coke ! And sits in the cinema to be taken off to another
World for a few hours. {[] ( thinking isn't one of my strong points ) )

Do you people really think there was only one copy of the list and that list was in an apartment in Istambul? Is that even remotely likely ?:)
You miss the obvious here: M isn't desperate to get the list back since without it the MI6 Will forget the names and assignments of all its undercover agents ) . She wants it back because the list must never get in the hands of Britain's enemies! If Patrice was shot by Eve or thrown off the train by Bond I guess the list wouldn't be completely safe, but it's a lot better than Patrice getting away with it. If the list ended up in the river I guess MI6 would search for it later. Turkey is after all a NATO member.
It's ironic reading all the posts about "dumbed down scripts" when it is blindingly obvious that MI6 isn't worried about losing the list, they are worried about enemies gaining it.

Why did I restart this old thread you may ask? I ask myself the same question. Imust have clicked on the wrong thread and started Reading, not noticing the topic (when was the last time I was on the Skyfall topic?) or the dates on the posts. Ignore or reply., it's up to you, but I wasn't lurking in old threads.
Well, instead of gawping, why didn't Eve just pull the trigger again and take out Patrice when he was alone on the train roof??
Also, when Bond swings the bucket of the digger around, why does he do it so that the cab is exposed for a lot longer than would be the case if he's have gone anti-clockwise, with the bucket and arm covering the cab?
Hey, ho!

Eve not shooting again ? I suppose you could put that down to shock - she had just shot James Bond !
Now, I'm not defending the movie but my take would be....
Eve was so shocked at killing 007, ( she was still in training)
And.
Bond hadn't been in a digger since CR, so it might have taken him a while
To get used to the controls. They're probably on the other side in Turkey. )
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
I don't know if this counts as duming down, but many things I was taught
As a kid, many younger people don't seem to know. Some examples
In a shop recently the assistant said she would need her calculator to work
Out the vat. I told her the vat would be( as I'd worked it out in my head)
She looked at me as if I was Stephen Hawkin
( 10% + 5% + 2.5% = 17.5%, it's very easy, even for Me ) )
During a recent thunder storm, I was able to tell a few younger friends that the storm
Was 10 miles away, then that it was about 7.5 miles etc.None of them knew about counting seconds, sound travels at around 2.5 seconds a mile. So you can roughly work out
How far away it is and its direction. )
Now it's not that I'm smart ( I think I've proven, I'm not over my many posts) but this
Is all basic stuff I remember from school outings and field trips. )
Then again with our crazy health and safety laws, perhaps kids don't get the
Opportunities we older one's did for getting outside. )
VAT's been 20% for years now. Either that, or I need a new accountant... )

1) Defending that script would be a Thankless tak Pussy. "Put out that light!!"
2) Naomie Harris is one of the best things to happen to Bond, a worthy addition to the Moneypenny hall of fame, she's marvellous!
3) Re Turkey, is that a JCB? Juice, Cranberries and Basting?
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?
She looked amazing on the J Ross Spectre special on itv at the weekend.

As a country born Scot, your third one screamed out at me at the cinema Stag. Isolated location, no back up and support, and it would take hours for the emergency services to get there. It made it too easy for Silva to "take M-Manf out." Which he did!
Bond should have drowned due to extreme hypothermia if not freezing to death for falling into an ice cold loch. And he would stink, but neither M or Kincade comment on that.
Then of course there is the gamekeeper who is supposed to be hiding a vulnerable fugitive but advertises his position when with a torch!
Welcome to Scotland! :v
Oh I really hope the writing is better in Spectre.

Bond is half Scottish, so would be used to swimming in frozen lakes, so cold your
scrotum has so many wrinkles, it looks like a fancy IKEA cheese grater !
I'm sure Bond thought he'd win, ( He did all the time when he looked like Roger
Moore).
