Actors Ad Libs, and bits of business ?

ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
Wondering if any members knew of any ad libs from any of the Bond actors. Or
Scenes they suggested improvements on ?
I know the line in LALD " Butterhook " and " We'll soon lick you into shape" were lines
Roger Moore put in. :)) and in TND, the trick with the hand grenade was from a
Suggestion from Pierce Brosnan, who once had an experience with a guy with a
Grenade in an Australian outback bar.
So I'd love to here if any members know of others ?

The only one I can really think of, is when Moore would change Desmond llewelyn's Lines as a Joke :))

George Lazenby improvised his line in his scene with the St Bernards dog in OHMSS.

I think Sir Rog also added "Egyptian builders!" to the Temple scene in Egypt

I think he said something else during the take because of the Egyptian censors and added the line in post. It was all planned.

Speaking of the TSWLM, who do you think would of played Blofeld in the original version of the Script?

To be honest Rog improvised most of his lines

I'd say MR and OP were his grandest achievements.

The Hennesy line is the only true improvisation in a Bond movie I know of. By improvised line or ad lib I mean a line that was not planned before the cameras started rolling. I would really be interested if anyone knew of more true ad libs, but I suspect most of what is refered to as 'ad libs' are line agreed upon earlier in the day.

In his "Roger Moore as James Bond" book, Sir Roger says he improvised the line about licking Rosie into shape just as screenwriter Tom Mankiewicz walked on to the set.

Good, now we know of two. I belive Moore has some talent for improvisation, but I doubt it was allowed most of the time.

    Or ....
You could of had Two, earlier, if you'd noticed my original post. :p :))

    OHMSS - Hennesey comment
    TSWLM - Lick into shape
LALD - What is the 'Butterhook' line?

    Any more?
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
:p lick into shape was LALD. ;)

Butterhook, is when Tee Hee tries to remove Bond's watch.

I'm pretty sure Connery ad-libbed a line or two of NSNA but don't ask me which ones.

Do you have a source for this statement, because I seriously doubt any of the Bond actors were allowed to improvise that much.

Robert Davi suggested the line "loyalty is more important to me than money."

Sanchez' (or Davi's) line was character defining. Very good!

Not an ad lib per se, but during the 2CV chase in FYEO, after Moore says "I love a drive in the country, don't you?", Carole Bouquet bursts out laughing. It doesn't fit the supposed tension of the scene, so I can only conclude that it was a blooper that John Glen decided to keep. Makes me wonder if maybe Moore ad-libbed his line and thus caught her off-guard, but I doubt it.

Moore suggested 'Sit!' during OP, when confronted with a tiger, not sure if strictly an ad lib. It was a nod to oh what's her name, prissy old woman dog handler, quite famous back then. Name like Mary Whitehouse but not.

I find when watching, you're caught up in the
momment, it doesn't bother me. Until I start
thinking about it. :)) OP could be a really great
    film if they just lost a few silly momments. -{

In OP when Bond collects his winnings after the baccarat game, he hands a wad of cash to one of his Indian colleagues and says

"here, that'll keep you in curry for a while"

    - and from the reactions of the other actors I'm sure it was an ad-lib.

Not very PC, but typical Roger!

Tanya Robers kicked up a fuss over having to wear some
Overalls in AVTAK, and demanded they be cut to give her
A more flattering shape. It took so long.
So the line from Roger about " pity you couldn't find one
That fits" was an ad lib. As everyone was pissed off at having
To wait around for her. Apparently it got a big laugh from the
    Crew. :))

The memory isn't quite what it was so I stand to be corrected. As I recall, they were trying to come up with a line in the scene where Jaws' teeth are stuck on the magnet (TSWLM). And it was Peter Lamont who suggested "How does that grab you?"
