Illustrated bond posters

I have a poster of all the bond movie posters for Dr No to QOS. And I noticed something... From DN to AVTAK the majority of posters are illustrated. Then from about LTK onwards they are no longer illustrated, but real live-action pictures. Do you think we'll ever see a return of the illustrated style posters?

I don't think so, it not the style now for any movie. Although some
Of the fan made posters are stunning ! {[]

For LTK, they had to scrap all of the already made existing Promo Materials due to the Title Change.

I have that poster, too, and the first thing I noticed is that all of them feature a woman somewhere on the poster except YOLT. I wonder what that says about me that I noticed it right away? :))

For me, the golden age of illustrated Bond posters began with Thunderball and ended with TMWTGG (with an honourable mention to FRWL). Robert McGinnis's wonderful artwork has yet to be bettered IMO. Some of the Brosnan era artwork echoed the composition of the great 60's posters, such as the TWINE poster, but that quickly fell away, sadly.

The current Craig-era posters are too simplistic and nowhere near as exciting; the composite posters of old created a heightened anticipation about some of the best scenes from the forthcoming film, which is now missing. But I guess that's the internet, it's too easy to see key scenes, so the posters can afford to be simplistic.

I don't think the illustrated Bond posters are coming back. I made a topic before or posted about how the producers could have made one for Casino Royale. Even if it was just one of the teaser posters. Also for Skyfall since it was the anniversary and supposed to bring Bond back to his roots. Or whatever they were saying to sell the movie. An illustrated teaser poster for Skyfall wasn't going to damage the marketing campaign. In the Casino Royale extras Daniel Craig said he helped with the poster design so maybe he doesn't like the illustrated posters that much either. If so I doubt we'll see one for his movies.

The days for illustrated posters in general are probably over. It's just sad that the James Bond franchise, one of the longest running film series and a series known for illustrated posters couldn't even try for the anniversary or use one new Robert McGinnis Bond image.

I like the Octopussy poster with an 8-armed Maud Adams tending to a tuxedoed Roger Moore.
