As everybody knows, I am bringing him up from time to time as the ultimate 007 villain
Now I am reading that he was in the talks for the Le Chiffre role in CR and that he'd put it down because he did not want the Berlin theater for 6 months during a valid contract.
Does anyone have more infos regarding this?

"In late 2005, German actor Ulrich Matthes was offered the role of Le Chiffre in the 21st James Bond movie 'Casino Royale' but he declined the part. At the time he stated that he did not wish to leave the Deutschen Theatre in Berlin, but has since admitted that there was a different reason for his refusal: "I was very excited by the opportunity," he explained in a 2013 interview with Der Spiegel, "but when the most respected president of the 'Tim Dalton Misty-Eyed Fan Club' - Herr Higgins - told me that Timothy Dalton was no longer playing Bond, I felt I had to decline. If Dalton ever returns to the role, I would quickly accept."
