If Pierce Brosnan had started with The Living Daylights, I think he could have said the one-liners better than Timothy Dalton did. But I don't know if Pierce would've waited six years after Licence to Kill, to do GoldenEye.

Had not the Remington Steel producers pull that stunt they did, PB would have fit i to TLD like a glove, like a miraculously rejuvenated Moore, baby faced and dapper. There may have been no LTK, since that was tailored for TD and I predict the films after TLD would have progressed with a similar feel as the existing PB movies. They would have been more successful and regarding the comment that the legal stalemate that stalled production for 6 years was inevitable regardless, I believe that there could have been a butterfly effect and the successes of the films from an earlier entry of PB might have shifted the factors causing the lawsuit, perhaps averting it altogether. Would the tiredness of the series have nonetheless happened? Maybe, but it's hard to tell what other factors and at which time would have determined what course EON might have taken in terms if tweaks or a full-blown reboot. What I do know is that the period beginning in 1987 into the 90s was ripe for the high-testosterone action flicks that Bond would have dominated in place of the films of that genre that flourished.

I think TLD would have been pretty much as it is now. I always felt Pierce wanted a grittier, darker Bond, and in TLD and LTK he would have been great. He would have felt confortable doing those movies.

However, when he finally got the role, he was asked to be the fantasy Bond, with some laughs thrown in, and jumping the shark too many times.

Hey TP I am only having a bit of fun with those who get reidulously upset over any critique of Brosnan's tenure. Even when Pierce himself was not happy with the films. I don't hate the man, he did the best he could. But I do switch off when his films are on they dont hold attention, some of the plots are overly rediculous. But I think I said before he has a poor supporting cast in his movies and poor lines to work with to much of the old Moore Puns.

You're right, Dalton's balloon popper abilities were second to none.

Pierce himself was not happy with the films

Nobody seems to take this into account. Maybe one of us in ajb007 who doesn't like Brosnan's films is Brosnan himself.

Maybe he doesn't rate them very highly because he had very little to work
With. Some really weak scripts, some terrible CGI ;)
Don't worry International Exports, I knew by the smillies you may not have

Hell no, My cousi a modeln launched the new Jag with him a few years back she said he was incredibly humble and chatty. You are right he did not have a lot to work with he was of his time, his Bond was was made for fans of action over all else.

I remember "The Secret Agent" posting he was once on holiday in California
And was in a Queue behind Brosnan, who on seeing TSA had very little in his
Basket, let him jump ahead of him. :D I stood behind many people in queues
Who wouldn't let you go ahead if you were having a heart attack ! :))

I was hoping that Brosnan would have become Bond, and I suspect The Living Daylights, with a little more humor, would have been a solid vehicle for him. It was the last Bond film made mostly by the old guard. It is, to me, Dalton's best turn as Bond, but I actually think he would have been better in a film like Goldeneye.

I agree, although the upside would have been that the "Tim Dalton Misty-Eyed Fan Club" would never have existed. Or would that be the downside? Curse that Higgins! He has me all confused! :))

"They would have been more successful"

The scripts would be the same......it's like saying the 70s films would've been more serious with GL as 007 , which I doubt.

Am I alone in thinking Brosnan looked too skinny and lightweight around the time he was mooted to take over from Moore? I think he was just about right come Goldeneye. Strangely I wasn't a fan of Dalton when I saw TLD at the cinema but he grew on me with reviewing. LTK went the other way..loved it on first viewing but not a big fan now. Maybe I'm just a nutter :))

Timothy Dalton makes TLD for me. But if Brosnan had been in it, LTK wouldn't have been made, and PB might have quit before DAD ;)

I think he was too skinny in Remmington Steele. Also in GE he was too lightweight.

However, the ultimate movie to check him out in 1986 is "The Fourth Protocol", shot around the same time as TLD. He has a very bondian role (although in the soviet side). He must have gained some weight for that one (or for TLD) because he looks terrific, like a 1964 Connery with lots of hair. :D

Brosnan would have made a good CR Bond around the time he did GE- he looked so boyish still. He'd have been a great rookie OO at that point. After GE he beefed up a little & finally looked like an adult. :D
