That would work for me, but I'd prefer someone else altogether...Idris Elba -{
It has been a while since I read Thunderball but I am sure in there it says a few of the members of SPECTRE are from SMERSH, the mob etc. Quantum could be SMERSH and now just working with SPECTRE after bond foud them out. That would work for me.
That Fleming was the creative mind of that lot is not rose-tinted or bull. It's fact.
Besides this I can't see the 'speculating' part that you mention.
Because I was not in the room with Fleming,McClory and Whittingham, I was speculating that Fleming created the names Blofeld and SPECTRE, and the others came up with the plot. That's speculation. That Ian Fleming was more creative than the other two is a fact, judging their output.
It seems like a return to form, between Craig's statement of it being a more humorous Bond and the title being Spectre, perhaps the series will go back to being a goofy spy movie rather than being inspired off of the more modern films.
I really love the title. I have been wanting a return of SPECTRE for a long time. After I saw Skyfall for some reason I started to hope that the last 2 Craig films would be a modern updating of OHMSS and then a proper follow up to it. My immediate thoughts upon seeing that bullet hole were... well Mach_eyy has already posted my Tweet about it.
It made me think that perhaps it could just be true.
I genuinely very much doubt it will be the case but I'd be in dreamland if it were.
( I feel I must qualify this post by saying OHMSS is my favourite Bonf film so I don't want it remade because I think it's crap, I want it updated because I feel it would be a fantastic story arc for Craig to bow out on)
1- On Her Majesty's Secret Service 2- Casino Royale 3- Licence To Kill 4- Goldeneye 5- From Russia With Love
Not too shaken by this really, once again can't see how they'll get a song out of it. 'Ooh, he works for Spectre / When he met Tracy, he wrecked her / In revenge for Bond stealing the Lector / Or is that going back too far?'
Have another great instrumental title theme like OHMSS. Problem solved!

Instead of Number 1, number 2,....the board of SPECTRE could be named Mr.White, Mr.Red, Mr.Green.Very Tarantino...We might have seen SPECTRE number 2 and number 3 already and not know it.

I think you're probably right with your suspicion if my recollection of Sellars BATTLE FOR BOND is correct (and even here he is pro Whittingham as he collaborated on the book with Whittingham's family).
Plot = collaboration. Meaty bits IF, most likely inc SPECTRE
It's established IF got the name Blofeld from a vicar in Norfolk who's family he knew. And all the Shrublands stuff is IF as he had to add the health clinic stuff as it doesn't appear in the collaborative scripts
Apologise in advance if this has been referred/speculated on before now. Andrew Scott is cast as Denbigh, a Whitehall based character. The rumours all had him marked down as a villain. Is Denbigh some kind of double agent like Craig Mitchell, "We have people everywhere"?

Me too. The OHMSS/YOLT story has simply not been told in the movies. It could make a wonderful two movie story arch.

If you can tell Scott's character from his playing of Moriarty I'd be surprised.

It will certainly be interesting to find out if he is or not. Looking forward to it.

It isn't confirmed from what we've been told, but speculation is widespread.
I loved the artwork of the title SPECTRE, with the bullet hole hitting
The C , to form in the cracked glass an outline of an octopus. {[]
I totally didn't spot the Spectre Octopus when I first watched the announcement (I was watching it on an iPhone in the toilet at work to be fair) - when I realised, I thought it was superb. What a "hair stand up at the back of your neck" moment for old school 007 fans!
BOND - "I'd say it's a 30-year-old fine indifferently blended Sir...with an overdose of bon bois."
M - "Colonel Smithers is giving the lecture 007!"
SPECTRE could be an armed paramilitary wing of the parent Quantum syndicate that amid the confusion of much of the Quantum leadership getting their cover blown, rebels and seizes some of most important assets of the defunct Quantum and makes its own more aggressive bid for world domination.
'Alright guard, begin the unnecessarily slow moving dipping mechanism...'
Love the title. Love how it formed. I couldn't believe they were going there. And I can't wait for the movie.
Long thoughts:
I wasn't planning on watching the conference this morning. I remember watching the Skyfall one and getting excited. Only to be let down by the movie. An anniversary movie at that. But I happened to be up, went to the site and didn't see a title. I checked the time and saw only a few minutes before the conference. I thought oh well why not.
I was very surprised by the title. I knew the rumors of Blofeld coming back but didn't expect that title. The forming of the logo was cool too with the shattered glass and octopus arms. As a fan of those old movies seeing that first hand just got me. They have to bring it now. What I call the SPECTRE movies from Connery are the best of the series to me. Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Thunderball, and You Only Live Twice. I even like Never Say Never Again. This new movie has to at least be better than Casino Royale. Honestly there is no reason it shouldn't be with everything they have in place. M, Q, Moneypenny, awesome locations, a new car (that should stay for the next few movies), crew, etc. I still think the director should be able to make a great Bond movie even though I didn't like Skyfall that much. I'm hoping that he gets it and they aren't just using the title as a marketing catch. Especially with the other rumors of a two part movie. The movie's description still sounds a bit too personal. But this movie will be more successful than Skyfall. There is no reason not to go all out on this one and make a classic Bond movie.
Also the casting looks great. Léa Seydoux was good in her fairly small role in Mission: Impossible 4. She's very pretty too. The surprise was Monica Bellucci. I didn't hear any rumors about her joining up. She should be awesome. And it's not really a spoiler but remember there was a John Gardner Bond novel with a female Blofeld. Not that I'm against Christoph Waltz. The guy plays an awesome bad guy and is one of the better actors out there. Even in smaller movies like Carnage the guy is really good. But I wouldn't be against a female Blofeld twist as I doubt many are aware of that. Even though I personally doubt it will happen. I don't think they will want to go there.
The new Aston Martin. I had a feeling they would go with the DB 10. But I'm not sure about the design. From the quick shots we saw it looks like they tried to make it different. Which is good. It's very futuristic and concept like. The front reminded me of some recent Alfa Romeo concepts. I don't like the small headlights though. I need to see the interior as well. Right now I'm not crazy about it like the Jaguar F-Type. But we'll see.
I think I'm probably more excited about this movie than any modern, in theaters Bond movie. I don't even think they need to mention the Quantum Group as long as they almost start fresh with what they have. Although part of me is a bit baffled as they did setup Quantum as the new SPECTRE. But at least we are hopefully getting the real thing now. The only missing part is for them to get Robert McGinnis to do something. Even a small illustration. This book did just come out.
But I can't wait for this one now. They got me excited again. Which is something after the letdown of Quantum of Solace and Skyfall. As I didn't expect much going forward. But now I'm ready for what should be a good one.
Had a crap day yesterday -- a LONG semester is coming to a close. But then I woke up to this, and I am elated, haha.
I have waiting almost literally for 30 years for them to get back to the roots. I've suffered through some of the least imaginative and most derivative Bond films, all of them missing in one way or another what had drawn me to the Bond series in the first place. Then they hired Craig, a bonafide actor who also has a lot of Connery's machismo and confidence. But I kept wanting the scripts to be better. They had a "retro" Bond, so why not a retro Bond plot? What was missing? SPECTRE.
They could very well screw this up, but I don't think so. The cast is outstanding. The title is wonderful. The director more or less gets it. All they need to do now is bring the writing up to par. This may well be the Bond film I have been waiting so long for.

I was hoping they would work "Gold" into the title again. Golden Spectre! The Spectre of Gold!! )

I really enjoy the Telly Savalas version of Blofeld. Donald Pleasance? Pure Austin Powers! )
I missed the whole thing! Is there a recorded version available somewhere?
