The blofeld riddle solved....

Well firstly excited that the new bond movie is off and running, with a cool title and great cast.
The most important question remains will we see the return of Blofeld, the head of Spectre, and will he be played by Waltz.
To further muddy the waters, Eon have released the name of Waltz's character, as Oberhauser. Could this just be a cover and he will be unveiled as Blofeld?
Well the obvious line of thought relates to the Fleming Bond, and carries on from the life-line plot of Skyfall. While at Fettes school bond became close to his ski instructor, Hannes Oberhauser, until one day he mysteriously disappeared. Therefore some think Waltz character is the instructors son. But with Oberhauser loosely translated as "upper house" or perhaps "lord or ruler of the house" his alias would appear perfect for the head of SPECTRE, Blofeld.
Too obvious....
Instead, I think I've tracked down the true root of the name Oberhauser and it is fascinating for what it might mean for the plot.
Oberhauser also means "from Oberhausen" which is a small city in Nrth Rhine Westphailia.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oberhausen
Its historical significance ranges from it's links to Napoloeon, and as a key industrial base of the Nazis during the war, home of the Ruhrchemie AG synthetic fuels plant owned by IG Farben. It was a key target of the allied bombers in the oil bombing campaign, and was thought to be the spiritual home of many of the leading Nazis like Hess and Himler. In more peaceful times, it's probably best known for it's sea life centre, which became world famous during the 2006 soccer World Cup because of the exploits of one of it's creatures.
And this is where the clearest hint comes;
The insignia of SPECTRE is the OCTOPUS....
And the remarkable creature in Oberhausen Sea life centre that captured the imagination of the whole world, due to it's ability to predict the results of yet to be played soccer games during the world cup, was Paul The Octopus....
So there we have the plot of Spectre. The organisation has continued the scientific experiments conducted by the Nazis during the war, including the program to exploit the telepathic and predictive capacities of the brain. They found that the most fertile brain for this purpose was actually that of the octupus, which is know to have 4 cranial chambers, one of which is thought to have no purpose at all, and is found to be the area of the brain that can be employed to predict the future. Human brains also have this 4th cranial chamber, but it's much smaller and has minimal capacity, although some humans have been able to exploit this capacity and act as clarvoyants etc.
SPECTRE have been using this technique for decades to predict the result of sports matches and win bets.
So there we have it - it's a cross between a view to a kill and casino royale, but with Nazis thrown in, hence the choice of the best actor to play a Nazi in 30yrs, Christopher Waltz.

I do hope I havn't spoiled it for anyone....

I wonder if this thread should have a "spoiler" tag? The idea is crazy enough to be possible!
To spoil his crazy idea - Oberhausen is virtually in the center of Germany - which is said to be the hidden governmental power of the EU, so it's safe to say that Blofeld will try to nuke pollute large parts of the EURO currency :v
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
It's an inspired deal!
I wasn't planning on anyway. I don't like movies that use the color black in their teaser posters.
People from Oberhausen call themselves and are called OberausENer
Now, whatya gonna do out of this?
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
Like most of your posts. Ignore it
Well, well, well. I have in my hot little hands the James Bond Encyclopedia (New Edition including Skyfall) and does it have some beans to spill. As I reach the 14th page of this enlightening piece, a paragraph reminds me of this very thread. This section is in regards to Bonds roots and upbringing... And it's juicy.
The following is more or less a shortened version of what's in the book.
In his youth, Bond travels to Austria where he befriends and finds a mentor in ski instructor Hannes Oberhausser, whom Bond describes as a "second father". In the short story Octopussy, Oberhausser is killed by none other than British officer Major Dexter Smythe, during the theft of a cache of Nazi gold after WW2. The body was dumped in a crevasse of a glacier, only to reappear later, leading Bond to be tasked with tracking down and confronting Major Smythe. This confrontation is referred to in the film Octopussy, Smythe being the father of Octopussy herself (IIRC Bond kills her father).

So there you are, the upcoming Bond film SPECTRE features a character by the name Franz Oberhausen... May only be a reference, or maybe a whole other plotline is now forming in your mind.
:007)
Im not sure what you are aiming at but Franz is Hannes son...
Easy then.... I did not know that
Bond, about him being a Father when he needed one. -{
This is old but also possible in some form? It could be Bellucci or Seydoux, perhaps....
Maybe they thought they'd do Skyfall as a one-off and then returned to the idea, in this form...
Mr. White's villa was in Italy.... perhaps he took an Italian lover (Bellucci) who will continue with the name?!?!
Crazy rambling. Long story short: they could pull an Iron Man 3.
Anything is possible. There could even be a surprise cast member who shows up that is being kept under very tight wraps, a big reveal at the end? Christoph Waltz has cannilly insisted he's not Blofeld and that people are in for a surprise. I do think that Rachel Weisz would be great as Tracey if they were re-making OHMSS...not just because she is DC's wife, but because she can really act and would be very convincing as that character.
Hopefully they'll find a more realistic skull cap than in FYEO..
