Nice to hear George say that. Tabloids are notorious for quoting people out of context and making up their own stories based on words people said. I applaud George for making this statement.
Though I would suspect he's wrong about the fashion industry. Many women may have had power in that industry for a long time (like Coco Chanel), but historically there have been more men at the top of fashion. Men have abused power in that industry in horrible ways too.
As I said two posts earlier, I'm not giving a link to them. Why encourage them? The British press are (mainly) uninformative, biased, and given too much credence and attention for their ever-diminishing circulation.
I understand your view on British tabloids and reasons for not posting a link, but what did thay say?

It started with Diana Rigg eating garlic to spite GL...and the tabloids are still at it!

In my opinion Paula Vacker (from Gardner's "Icebreaker") was an unrealistic name for a character, unlike realistic and everyday names like Pussy Galore ). The character is from Finland, but the country was a part of Sweden for hpundreds of years. Scandinavian last names are usually from a place (Dahl) or son of someone in the bloodline (names ending with -sen or -son), not dicriptive names like Vacker (Beautiful). But today I learned that the Swedish army historically often renamed their soldiers to avoid having thousands of soldiers with names like Andersson or Karlsson. These names were sometimes discriptive, simply a result of a clerk looking at some recruit and using whatever he noticed about him as a name. At least one military family in Sweden is called Fager, a synonyme of Vacker. I happy to learn that Bondian names are more common than you'd think :007)
huh! my PAN paperbacks are still packed away since my last move, so I can't give you a page ref. But I do have all 14 books as textfiles on my harddrive, so thanks the the magic of textstring searching, here is the actual quote:.
From OHMSS ch8. Fancy Cover
Bond might be able to trick the man into a visit to Germany, as a result of a report which Sable Basilisk had prepared of certain Blofeld family documents at the Augsburg Zentral Archiv, which would need Blofeld's personal identification. Security precautions would include keeping Station Z completely in the dark about Bond's mission to Switzerland and a closure of the 'Bedlam' file at Headquarters which would be announced in the routine 'Orders of the Day'. Instead, a new code-word for the operation, known only to an essential handful of senior officers, would be issued. It would be 'CORONA'.
So Fleming did indeed use the term, but it was for the plan to infiltrate Piz Gloria and bring Blofeld out, named CORONA before MI6 learned about Blofeld's bio-terror plot. Still, I guess the details of Blofeld's plot were entered into that CORONA file before it was closed.
the same article also mentions there was once an Asterix villain named Coronavirus. Because the Romans names all end in -us, and all Asterix characters names are puns.
Anybody know in which book this character showed up in?

and I do know which box I have that book stashed away in...
Coronavirus was the name of the Roman's entrant in the race, who always wore a mask(!!), and was accompanied by his faithful assistant Bacillus!
see pg13 where the two characters are introduced in a large panel. you will not believe it...
this volume is by the new creative team of Jean-Yves Ferri and Didier Conrad, so retired series creator Albert Uderzo is not to blame for that awful coincidence.
