I watched it about three times last week ( Itv showed it over many channels)

You are possibly correct with the symbolism thing ( it hurts me to say anything
about you being right about something ) ) but it's over my head, I thought it
was just an action packed ending, with Bond kicking ass, all over the place.
I don't over analyse it too much

One of my biggest problems with the film is that Bond doesn't really do that in CR. He doesn't fight well, and he loses most of his fights. At the sinking finale of the film, Bond loses in the end.
Add in the PTS kill and Miami airport. This movie has the best fights since FRWL, imho.
Most Craig critics say he is too thuggish, even brutal. Now you say he is a weak fighter. Seems contradictory to me, but I guess it's all a matter of taste. -{

I do think Craig's performance on QoS is better than on CR, because he seems to embrace the grit and darkness of his 007.
On which of his 3 007 films (so far) do you guys feel Craig gave his best performance?

The Miami airport is the worst action scene of the entire series.
When did I say he was a weak fighter? He struggles too much, like he doesn't know what he's doing. He's not a confident fighter.

yes and no...
no: of course he struggles, he's at the beginning of his carrer eithout much experience
yes: as a former military he should know how to win easily

He should have learned the ropes before going out in the field. Bond's job should have more preparation than most. And by the age of 38 he should have been very experienced in combat. They didn't just pick up Bond off the street.
after all I don't think you can say that Bond doesn't bring his a-game...I mean ve jumps off a driving truck, gets up, runs after it and climbs back on before finally swinging through the windshield in ninja-style

I accept your opinion. But I find it hard, considering that we're talking about a series which featured people being sucked from bullet holes in air planes, being blown up like a balloon, exploding milk bottles, Tsunami kitesurfing, and basically any scene with Jaws, to name just a few. 8-)

Okay, so the Tsunami kitesurfing is worse, though it doesn't drag on. But the rest of the scenes you mention? They all set higher standards for Bond that make the airport chase seem boring.
I agree that Miami airport drags on for too long. But there are several criteria by which an action scene can be rated. Others are perhaps more entertaining, but also sillier, (even) more unrealistic, technically inferior (the filming), etc.
I just took issue with the absoluteness of your statement.

I believe that you do need some experience before becoming a 00 agent.
In Dr. No, when Bond was forced to give up his Beretta and trade it in for a Walther PPK, it's clear that he was a regular agent at some point.
00s are special agents, which I believe tend to have harder fieldwork and more privileges than regular agents.
Ofc, if anyone understands this more than me, feel free to contribute.

I watched CR again recently (ITV) and still loved it. I like that his fighting is ragged and not polished as it brings a realism to it.
I agree that the Miami chase does go on but for me, it is far from being the worse one in the series.
I guess the fact that i loved the film the first time i saw it just means i find it hard to pick holes in. It would be in my top 10 films ever, never mind Bond films.
I watched CR a few times over the past weeks. I did not have any qualms over his hand to hand skills then any more than I do now.
In the novels Bond is trained in judo throws and holds and boxing. Granted, in this day and age and with the reboot I suppose we're expected to believe he has been trained in other martial art skills. However, to make the films more realistic, the stunt team has Craig going into fights that don't come across as just the standard western fist cuffs that were done in the older films, nor any of the balletic type of martial arts that really only happen in sporting matches. They decided to make his confrontations more brutal, spontaneous and realistic, and in real life even a trained fighter makes mistakes and gets hurt during a real brawl - especially when dealing with someone with a sharp edged weapon. Combat inside the cab of a moving truck is not your every day run of the mill fight either.
I've been to martial arts matches. I was trained in Judo and I boxed in school. I know people who are trained in Krav Maga and Aikido and Karate and I've seen real fights.
All the trainers I talked to told me know matter how good you are, you cannot anticipate what will unfold in a fight. It depends on so many factors (location, who's armed and who isn't, how well you feel at the moment and on..) that the only thing training does is give you better odds at getting away either without injury or at least minimalizing it. A lot of times people win out of sheer luck.
I realize people who have seen the Bourne films believe that is probably how skilled Bond should be now. However, even the fights in these films are perfectly choreographed so there are no errors in Bourne's engagements. I asked a trainer his opinion on the films and he thought they did a good job at showing how fast a fight can be, but he thought they still made them look a lot like a dance, brutal as they are. He said he preferred the fights in the Craig films, because they look more spontaneous and raw. His favorites were the stairwell fight and bathroom brawl. His main objection to all these film fights is that they go on too long and he realizes that is done for the entertainment value. It's like paying good money to go to a boxing match. You want to see it last as long as you can and if the fights over on the first punch you feel cheated. In reality most of these film fights would be over in seconds either because of the injuries or just the fact that the fighters just knacker out quickly.
As far as losing fights? What opponents of Craig are left standing in the films? As far as I can recall, they all die and Craig survives (usually banged up, but still there). The ones who confront him seem to be his equal at the time or even better, but he usually get's the last laugh - and yes, I'm talking to you, Carlos, Mr. I'm-going-to-blow-up-this-plane-with-this-tanker-truck.
I will say that CR has my fave Craig Era PTS, even if the film is my least fave of said era.

By "airport chase" do you mean the fight scene involving the tanker?
If so, the fight is fine (as an action scene it's not as good as the free running chase, which is one of the best chase scenes in film history) but the ending is sublime. The look on Bond's face when the guy blows himself up is worth the price of admission.
And, as for worst action scene ever in a Bond film, that would be the gondola chase from MR, which I believe is even worse than the DAD's kitesurfing.
Of course its worse. The biggest **** up in Bond history
The airport business was superb. Bond tracks the guy at the airport. Its his ambition to kidnap the plane and destroy it. If he doesn't then he'll owe his creditors millions - and Le Chiffre is forced to play the game at Casino Royale, to recoup his losses.
In the car chase we have
- the spectacular stunt as the police car is lift by that soaring plane
- when Bond is dangling from the fire truck and is about to be swept off - he rolls off and out of his way
- the switching of the bomb from the assassins belt
All done at a rush. The scene follows smoothly. It reaches a natural end
When Bond falls exhausted to the floor after the cops get him - he's only just won. Its a mini adventure. It was Bond who saved the plane.

He looked pretty good in the staircase fight considering he was up against a machete

Which bit would you cut out?
I'd actually cut out that whole thing to make the film more like Fleming's novel. It was all so unnecessary.
