Astrology is mainly used to predict and not to prove theories :p .... However accuracy of such prediction can be modeled to make an informed decision vs. "I have this feeling" or shooting in the dark ;)

So I now reach GE in my revisiting of the movies - I have only seen this twice before - once upon release and again probably 10 years or so ago - I never liked PB as Bond so I wonder if my view will change?

    Pros:
    DB5 is back.
Q scene - DL is obviously enjoying his part in this one.
Bond discovering Alec is still alive.
    Villain's lair is good.
    General Ouromov - Onatopp

    Cons:
    PTS
Title song - Titles - Music
    DB5/Ferrari chase with evaluation inserts
Onatopp/Admiral sex scene too graphic for a Bond movie
Tank chase - statue on tank is as ridiculous as the MR gondola hovercraft scene
    Jack Wade

    Observations:
We have a new Bond, M and Moneypenny. Basic plot of laser from space mimics DAF. We learn of how Bond became an orphan.

    Conclusion:
Reviewing this has only confirmed that in my opinion PB does not make a good Bond in fact he is the only actor I cannot actually believe IS Bond. He looks too pretty - he doesn't talk as Bond should - his quips are lame (that's down to the script I know) but his delivery is awful. Having Joe Don Baker back in another major role is poor as his acting is rudimentary to say the least. The jury is out on Judi Dench as M, I'm not that impressed to be fair but there are signs that she may grow into the role. Ouromov is a good character and Famke Jansenn is impressive as Onatopp a really good hench(wo)man who is reminiscent of the May Day character but Famke can act a lot better. I don't like graphic sex scenes in a Bond movie and the Onatopp/Admiral scene was over the top. Natalya was bland as the BG and Moneypenny was irritating. The music is the worst ever - even TMWTGG sounds like a masterpiece compared to this. After TD's brilliant performance as Bond unfortunately this takes a backward step and the movie just lumbers on from scene to scene - at least even the worst of the RM movies were fun to watch but I can never imagine wanting to see this one again.

Brosnan's Bond is perfect for me. How does he not talk as Bond should? His delivery is excellent, as are the little nuances he shows in his reactions; when Onatopp intoduces herself; when he asks her how does she take her vodka martini...and some great quotable dialogue throughout.

Natalya is a fantastic BG. Great acting in the Weapons Control centre when trying to evade Onatopp and escaping from the resulting destruction.

Nicely put .... At the time of its release GE may have worked but now it is the worst Bond movie which is probably mostly admired for emotional reasons by those who started watching Bond with it :)

It's a bungee jump (ho-hum) - Bonds first words are upside down in a toilet where someone is having a dump - Bond "flies" through the air to get to the plane - can it really get any worse?

like I've said it multiple times before: out of steel-teethed villains, space lasers or hollowed out volcanoes, people are always picking on the trivial stuff.

    Natalya:
she's supposed to be "bland": she's a computer programer in the middle of nowhere so she might not work as a playmate in her free time; that explains her pitfit and behaviour.
still she's way above average looking (especially if you compare her to her colleagues), because she's the main Bond girl

    Xenia:
she's displaying the idependance of women, she's the first real henchwoman who can stand alone (not counting Klebb) and therfore is supposed to be OTT (and that's alricht, hey we're watching Bond). I have no problem or whatsoever with her sexing around.
In the end she's supposed to be somewhat like Bond and the opposite of Natalya.

Oh and please, no one bring up Austin Powers, whenever I read an argument that includes him, I'm shaking my head, because it sickens me that some people try to compare a Bond persiflage to Bond himself.
    Cheers

People know all that .... What is being discussed is beyond all that^ ;)

Bond films are neither supposed to be a documentary nor a cartoon. What you are saying suggests that GE characters were either supposed to be from documentary or cartoon .... And then when discussing characters, you bring up the looks .... Being a programmer, Natalya can be bland, but being a BG, she has to look good which acknowledges that there are certain expectations :))

In the past, we have had characters that have been played OTT such as Zorin. However, how Onatopp is played is more suited to Austin Power films (when one compares a character from Bond films to a persiflage's, it shows how badly the characters are played)

All I get from your post is a set of conflicting points which only strengthen the case against GE:

    * A character is supposed to be bland because of her occupation. But then she has to look good to be acceptable as BG
    * A woman character that can stand up to Bond has to be OTT, when Bond is not really OTT (Appears as if you forgot how Fiona's character was played in TB)
    * You shake your head when Bond's characters are compared to ones in movies such as Austin Powers but appreciate it when such characters show up on Bond films

    Thank you! {[]
