I don't fault them for making only 700, I fault them for shoddy communication and expectations....a newsletter email was to be sent to people to give them a link where to purchase...as someone in the world of marketing, creating a positive experience goes a long way to future advocacy and loyalty...the opposite also holds true...

You guys are hilarious. Just because you didn't get a jacket. This is a company that trades and sells in exclusive items, it's not Banana Republic. Why would they do more than 700 ? The whole point is for it to be exclusive. I commend them in their ability to have this sort of retail power. Yes, I know that's not what you want to hear.

Anyway, I would relax if I were you. All 700 were not on the website, given time you will see some in the official retailers.

I'm sure that Matchless will bring out a reissue of a very similar jacket.
After the "Avengers: Osborne Limited Edition Jacket" was sold out, they have offered a new (little less distressed) version. Unfortunately at the same price.

And don't forget Matchless stole this design to Varvatos. I'm very disappointed by them.

This jacket is not very impressive. I like the idea of a camel-colored suede jacket, but I'd be much more inclined to buy one that is both less expensive and more attractive. Granted, I'm not a collector; I prefer to draw inspiration from Bond's clothes rather than copy them. However, since this jacket isn't even SA, I'm not sure it has much value to any of us!

    From my instagram:

thebondexperience@matchlessmalenotti Will any of the jackets be on sale at stores or boutiques? Or was that it? I was keen on getting a medium and had one in my cart but was marked as sold out after I paypaled.

matchlessmalenotti@thebondexperience sure! The jackets will be available in the top boutiques worldwide!

I agree with The Mantis. I have no issue with limited editions and inevitably there will be disappointed customers. If handled correctly that can boost the reputation and allure of the manufacturer and increase their customer base. Properly handled there can be a pre-launch registration/purchase etc, newsletter, genuinely helpful Tweets/Instagram posts etc. But to drop little hints that prove to be inaccurate and then boast when it sells out in 20 minutes is not helpful at all. A better response would have been along the lines of "We are so sorry that you were unable to acquire our Craig Blouson. We will have many more limited edition pieces in the future and encourage you to subscribe to our newsletter..." etc etc.

Don't get me wrong, being a jacket collector myself, I do genuinely feel sorry for those who tried and didn't get one today.

But this is just how this company runs with it, it's like being snubbed at at BMW showroom or something. The truth is the company doesn't *need* your sale. Nice manners and marketing politeness are decent qualities for sure, something most companies will go insolvent without, but this just isn't one of them. It's just a case of knowing who your seller is. I just felt that there was a bit too much unnecessary Matchless bashing here, a brand that I'm obviously quite partial to.

For those of you that are following the discussions over Instagram, matchless has just made mention that there will be more stock of sizes starting tomorrow. Perhaps this means that the stores and boutiques will start selling their stock tomorrow as well.

No offence but the CEO said the following and none of it occured

    1) A newsletter would be sent out first
    2) The jacket would be on sale on Friday

    Neither of this occurred.

Im not bitter as I got a jacket but the customer relations is piss poor

Yeah they dont care etc as business is business but I think the people here are justified to bash away to some extent after being messed around

This is true. People who bashing Matchless have every right to do so because they were not treated fairly. It's even worse that the CEO wasn't honest with the customers. I was in a clothing shop yesterday and the owner of the store rudely kicked out all of the customers. The salespeople were all very pleasant about getting people to leave when the shop had to close, but the owner was treating us customers like children.

To clarify, I don't think anyone has been bashing the product itself. I'm a fan of Matchless and would love to own one of their jackets! But the company behind the product has a terrible track record of customer service and communication. Sorry but I can't praise a company that treats their customers like this. If it wasn't for the quality of their product, I suspect they might have gone out of business years ago. Sure they have a storied history in the leather jacket world and there's no sign of their film tie-ins slowing down, but in the current digital marketplace, customer service isn't a decent quality, it's a must. Word-of-mouth spreads faster than it ever does, and poor customer service can be a virtual death sentence to any company. It's naive for an established company to think they're above having to serve its' customers, whether they're selling a $20 t-shirt or a $2,000 jacket.

On the plus side, it's nice to see Matchless finally responding to the flood of comments on their Instagram and releasing more stock tomorrow. Let's hope they follow through this time around.

    Kind regards,
    Craig

Unfortunately I've found poor customer service to be very common with exclusive brands, especially British brands. You might also get poorly treated with low-end brands, but it's a different kind of poor treatment. The high-end brands often act like they don't need your business.

someone must have bought larger quantities- on this board maybe 25-30 active people were seriously interested- that leaves 670 ?:)

Don't forget there are plenty of people that look at AJB but haven't registered...and a few others that have registered but not necessarily posted here...should still leave quite a few though...maybe they only released part of the 700 to cause a 'buzz' and an unnatural demand ?

For those in the U.S., what time of day/ night do you recommend checking the Matchless website tomorrow? I checked last night and this morning sporadically and was too late to the dance...should have just stayed up all night..
If I'm able to get any, does anyone else still need a size that you want me to try to order for you?
    I need a large and I think Mantis still needs a M?

100% agree with this! I feel the disappointment of those that really want the Matchless jacket for collecting completeness. But taking a step back and really having a look ...is it such a great jacket?

If this pans out as badly as it seems to be with Matchless's shoddy customer consideration, as Bond fans and collectors, etc., I wonder if approached by the community like C&J were re. the black DC chukka boots, John Varvatos would re-issue their Bond suede racer jacket in the camel colour - it would make a far nicer jacket at a reasonable price.
Based on my experience of JV customer service thus far, I think there is good chance they would step up. And if the comment that Classless pinched the design from JV is true, what more satisfying way for JV to put the finger back up at them than to sell a better version of their Bond jacket in decent numbers and make good money with happy customers :v

As for awful customer service, Matt is right in relation to some British brands, but I would say there is invariably a link with those British brands being now owned by foreign investment groups.
Belstaff jackets are of no longer of the quality needed for a true biker and pretty much a fashion brand owned by an Italian group, surprise surprise, the same parent company that owns Matchless.
Hackett owned by the LVMH Group have also gone from being 'Essential British Kit' to 'Stuff Continental blokes buy to wear and think they look British, but they don't'.
Barbour on the other hand are still British through and through and still hold a good reputation.

I have not got a clue what the quality will be like etc however I think its a bit over the top to call it a JV rip off?? Its a pretty common style (besides it has a collar, no zips on the arms and no butterfly stitching) Its simply a racing style blouson in suede is it not (like countless others??)

Also I imagine it was requested and poss designed by EON and co since not an already existing jacket

Yeah… I wouldn't compare it to the JV at all…. It is a hell of a lot more similar to the HB jacket.. even the collar stitching is somewhat similar… the only thing it has in common with the JV is that they are both suede jackets.. and thats about it..

I'm just referring to this comment - I have no evidence to support or dispel it, that why I said if it is true...

As for comparison, the cut and stitching lines (especially the one near the bottom that caused so much issue with confirming the JV jacket) look awfully similar to my eyes.

You are dead right Skippy. Belstaff and Hackett's sell out to faceless euro companies killed their unique Britishness, which has all but disappeared from their ranges, with token nods for tourists of the Union Jack flag. Both of their stores are totally uninspiring and their clothes are dull as dishwater, its like upmarket Zara these days. I used to get quite excited walking into the old Hackett shops, the Sloane Street store used to have lots of old nods to Bond but alas, Hackett and Belstaff have ensured they will never adorn Bond now. Shame, I would have loved to seen Bond dressed by Hackett before the LVMH disaster.

I wasn't talking about the Varvatos blue suede. I was referring to an old Varvatos suede jacket from 2013-2014 Winter collection.
The Matchless is completely identical to the Varvatos jacket except the color.

Think your right as they were also going to release the same jacket in Navy!!! Think they could have put the two to the the production company.

I stand corrected... Damn... That is pretty much the same jacket.. And to think matchless sold 700 in 20 minutes.. Over $900 grand in sales essentially off someone else's design... :s

Me too. Im guessing when the EON dept find something and want it tweaked or mass produced then they simply find somebody else willing to do it to their liking. e.g. Moncler / TF

However it sounds like maybe not too many today were put on sale initially (if I interpreted the latest round of Instagram dialogue correctly??)

Considering what they did with the limited then the general run of the Osborne.. would have made sense to do the limited run without the sleeve insignia.. then a general run with it… but then I'm not a businessman :))
