I kind of understand. So on my recent trip to San Francisco I was trying on various Billy Reid jackets, including a $1500 black suede jacket. Large fit but was boxy, medium looked better but was too constricting along the back shoulders to actually wear in real life (as opposed to reel life). Not for me. I was also in the JV store, and mediums of anything were skin tight.

So you ended up going with the Large Matchless?

Yeah the xl was too loose... Agree tho, the fit has to be usable. We'll see I guess. Will put my mind at rest

Anyone has an idea where to find stirrup trousers like these? Because obviously I'm not going to buy a 1000 quid Tom Ford pair but it's a really good idea for a hard winter - and in Poland it might actually happen this year.

Here's a pair from Moncler, which will match the Moncler jacket should you have one. Not quite as baggy as the TF ones but a lot more affordable. I can't believe these are coming back in fashion, I couldn't wait to get a more 'fashionable' pair when I had a pair like these back in the day :D

what are people's thoughts on the Matchless... Worth the money or get Indy to make a copy? It's a lot of money for the original and wondered if people who purchased it are happy.

well, I have it. It sits in my collection as I don't get to wear it now, but It is a nice jacket.
BUT if you have this money I'd rather go for the Sölden blouson, I think it looks even better.
in the end it's down to your personal preference though.
Or if you definitely want a suede jacket, I'd take the JV, it's the same but for galf if the price.

For those who have the Danner boots, I'm in need of some work boots and was thinking of using this as an excuse to purchase. Obviously these are considered hiking boots so wearing them for long days should be fine. How is the toe on these, fairly solid? I'm not asking for steel toe but if I end up kicking some pallets or other hard surfaces, would they hold up? I am normally a 9-9.5 but I'ver heard it's best to size down and go for the wide boot, what do you all think?

You twist and turn like a kite dancing in a hurricane, Mr McCoy....

It's subliminal - it has to be...There I was strolling casually in London barely one hour after collecting my Anthony Sinclair sharkskin grey Conduit Cut suit and I look up to discover that I'm walking down...Conduit Street! Isn't this street the home of John Varvatos's London store, muses I? And heavens, there's the very same store on the other side of the street! Must be fate, and won't hurt to check out THE jacket. Forty five minutes later, my order is placed and I step out of the store in a sort of befuddled daze, wondering what has just happened. I head off in the general direction of Carnaby Street, hoping to pick up some cheap knick-knack gifts to show for my travels when, 'lo-and-behold', I spy a Barbour store tucked away down a side street. Not a large store at all, so there's no supposing they might stock the Commander jacket in my size. Still, won't hurt to pop in and ask, thinks I. 'Oh, you DO have it, and in my size too. Mind if I try...? Hmmm...actually that looks pretty good... oh dear!

So my shopping bags are starting to mount up. I walk across the road, not really sure where I'm going now, turn right into Newburgh Street and there on the right-hand side (dammit!) is Baracuta. Wasn't it the Baracuta G4 jacket that inspired the QoS TF midnight navy Harrington jacket, recalls I? Couldn't hurt to pop in and browse...

All of which begs the question, when does Bond take the time to shop for his famously stylish wardrobe? I reckon he probably does it a bit like the rest of us - he steps out onto the street, he twists and turns, but there's no denying his Black Centurion Amex card and, before he can say, "I thought Christmas only comes once a year", there's another N.Peal cashmere sweater tucked under his arm and a new TF suit bag in his hand! :)

People say London's an expensive city because of the cost of housing etc, but in reality it's because of all the temptations!

    Congratulations on your haul!

I agree, I have the Matchless jacket and love it, super-lightweight, great fit and very nice material.
I also have the Tom Ford jacket and ski pants and while you are paying a lot for the brand with TF, the material is unbelievably nice. I looked at a lot of alternative pants but once you feel the material you just can't settle for anything else. I have the pants being slimmed down by a tailor right now as they are way too baggy off the rack.
I passed on the J.V jacket which did look very cool in the movie.

I love the Matchless. Yes its exp but not out of sync with their stuff. Worth it in my opinion. Goes well with loads of looks too, not just boots chinos polo look :)

Also agree re the TF... Worn it more in the last 2 weeks than I wore my Levis Menlo in 3 years! So £ per wear is going to be better value

BREAKING NEWS ... MR WHITE JACKET IS IDENTIFIED
Thanks to the help of other members,
I confirm : IT IS DIOR HOMME !
I went to the flagship store in Paris today and discussed with the team there : even though they could not precise the exact year of the collection it belongs to, they confirm there is a 100% distinctive sign which is the stitching behind the shoulders. See below a picture of a very close model of bomber that is available in the current collection (but unfortunately not exactly the same : different fabric, no zip on the sleeves) : it has the exact same "scar" which is indeed a distinctive Dior homme signature.
Also the my white jacket does have a removable wool collar - just like the one I took a picture of today - you clearly see the button on the back of the collar in the movie.
The good news is the jacket is identified
The very bad news is that the jacket is according to me - and confirmed by the Dior team after checking the global catalogues worldwide for almost 45 min - IMPOSSIBLE to find since it belongs to an older collection.
    THIS JACKET IS KILLING ME
I will try to forget it now ajb007/frown ajb007/frown ajb007/frown

Congrats to Ajb007 member Steviekim who was the first to mention Dior Homme
I immediately thought of this brand when the picture of the back came out.
The button is also an exact match

The price of the current collection blouson was over 2000 euros.
I am going back to the store tomorrow to pick another coat - not related to Bond. I will check and take decent pictures

You mean the current model ? I will check and take pictures of the label tomorrow
For the screen accurate model however we did not manage to find the ref in the past collections - they only have records up to last year
I personally believe it is from FW2012 collection - a whole Dior homme collection with similar fabrics, colors, cuts and designs

It is very frustrating because even though we got confirmation it is Dior homme, there seems to be no way to know what model it is exactly. I can't find a picture anywhere

    Hello David
Wow ... It seems like cachemere indeed ! Did you get official confirmation ??
The one I saw today at the store seemed to be made of a less luxurious material but again, it was a different model. It was just useful confirming they are both part of a same brand

It would seem that all the hunting in the world probably wont turn up any significant number of these jackets, only pressure and focus from interested parties...so this is an instance where I think the more noise everyone creates around this jacket to Dior the better.
  • rstvrstv Posts: 20MI6 Agent
    One detail also
The Dior homme team confirmed every cachemere coats / jackets are made from Loro Piana fabrics
So I imagine the mr white jacket being in cachemere, it is also made from Loro piana wool
One of the most luxurious cachemere manufacturer in the world

Magnoli to save the day! :))

Seriously, if someone tracks one down, in a decent size, congrats! This is up there with the Armani jacket from Casino Royale in terms of rarity.

Which pants are you referring to ? The poster ones DC wears with Npeal turtle neck ?

Daniel Craig probably didn't own the number of duplicates that would have been necessary, though this jacket wasn't used all that much, right? But they probably didn't need that many of this jacket because no stunts were involved.

The similar TF jacket from last year, that was supposedly offered to the production, had an equally high price tag.
It surprises me if the Dior is from a few seasons ago - we've seen that clothing used, if not made for the film, tends to be roughly current to when the film is made.

Strong chance that these are the Neil Barrett trousers yet again: the best picture in daylight when blown up could be the same horizontal tick pattern Someone with a good screen might be able to get a better screen capture. Large scale version is here http://startfilm.ru/gallery/659070/#cadr with picture that looks as if taken through a keyhole.
