old spectre

i just have a quick question ad maybe some one can shine some light on it for me.
im re-watching all the movies starting from dr. no all the way up to skyfall.
now while watching the first ones again i noticed that spectre is referenced alot, and then it just disappears?

what happened?
why did they stop and why has it taken so long to pick it back up?

It's an old story, basically they lost the rights to
Spectre and Blofeld. When the Producers did the
deal with sony for the reboot, they got the rights back !
    That's a very brief answer. :)

Here's the brief history. After Fleming wrote several novels, McClory helped write screenplay for Thunderball (alongside Fleming). It never materialized, but Fleming made it into a novel. McClory sued Fleming because he was uncredited and didn't get royalties. The court favored McClory and gave him co-authorship of Thunderball with Fleming. They also decided that McClory invented Spectre since the concept wasn't incorporated into Fleming's previous novels. Eventually an agreement was made with the McClory estate for Eon to get the rights back.

Blofeld essentially meets his end in DAF. FYEO offers an alternate possibility -- we don't really know when the teaser is supposed to take place though it's often assumed to be contemporary to the film. Either way, Blofeld's organization effectively ends. At least, that's how it could be viewed. Personally, I found SPECTRE far more interesting than one-off villains, except Goldfinger.

I guess in FYEO the bloke dropped down the chimney was simply bald and not named Blofeld :)

Well, if one were to look at it that way, it is the truth.
