In fact in the future I don't think we'll be able to buy a hard copy
Of a film or music. The company will make more money having
us rent it every time we wish to view. They'll all be kept in the " cloud"
For us to download as required for a small fee.

A 4k 90 minutes movie will need 100GB of space - you can't get that on Blu Ray :v
Someone has come up with a way of getting a ridiculous amount of storage on DVDs now...I read about it about a month ago...and you didn't have to compress the image or sound...I'm sure it worked out to roughly 100 films per disc...
I don't see 4k taking off as nobody will film/broadcast it...
Don't all DVD/bluray players upscale now ? Obviously you need a full hd TV to start with...but I see very little difference between my Bond DVDs and blurays....
Think I read the Japanese are already working on 4Ks successor!!
Im not clued up on anything above blu-ray so whats the story with 4K? I mean say it did for instance take off in theory - would that require EON restoring and rescanning the entire series again at a higher resolution? If I remember rightly did they not only scan the first few films at super duper resolution and then went down a few levels for the rest of the series, if so why? Cost? Storage?
I have a largish Sony TV (about 42") which was bought new last year. It is Full HD. The only problem I can see is that There are no spare scart points. It looks as I would have to buy one of those stand alone scart 'junction box' things too.
Does BluRay work via HMDI instead though? Although I think I have no spare ports for that either, can you buy HDMI 'junction boxes' too?

Well, you did not see vehicles driving over 10 mph as well )
Doesn't mean that it did not happen.... )
As for the storage on DVD: Not possible without data compression. But maybe your boxbrownie can?
The difference Full HD(1080) to 4k is like DVD to Blu Ray.
If you can't see it- I am not surprised about your personal preference for Dalton.

Dunno if it's relevant to post here but could someone please explain the difference between BluRay & DVD in terms of picture quality? If I was to buy one could I play DVDs in it & would I see an improvement?
You can get a player very cheap on eBay, yes it will play DVDs, and the picture quality on Blu Ray is amazing IF you have a 720 or 1080 screen. If you have a regular old TV set the difference won't be nearly as great. Regular DVDs will look better if your present DVD player is not an 'upscaling' one.
One thing though, sometimes the detail is TOO great. In Superman: The Movie I could see the black curtain behind the Krypton explosion... in YOLT I could see EVERY animation plate in the volcano eruption...

If you see very little difference then either your display is small (or old) or you're not using HDMI to connect the BR player...

My 'display' is a 50 inch plasma and my HDMI cables work just fine...perhaps there is little difference because my 'set up' is so bloody good in the first place )

Plasma still the best out there B-) And it's none of that Sharp rubbish either

50 inch? Well then, no wonder. When you spread the pixels out that wide discs look like videotape anyway. )
Okay, seriously though, I have a little old 26 inch 720 screen and I see a world of difference in most of the Blu rays I've gotten (except for Goldfinger, that just looks 'noticeably' better). And not just in the definition, in the colour as well. But then my Son says he doesn't see any big deal of a difference. It may just come down to how your brain is stimulated. Some people are visual creatures (me definitely) and others respond better to sound or words, etc. It's possible DVD offers you all the visual information your brain needs, and anything more is merely overflow.

LOL, well it's my understanding (I used to sell these things) that while plasma gives the truest blacks, LED/LCD gives a much brighter picture overall. I was never overly impressed with plasma or I'd have gotten one with my discount. Likewise, with the screen size I chose, I felt 1080 wasn't necessary. But 1080 is crucial in bigger screens like 50".
Yeah, my BR player upscales too, to the point that my Blade Runner DVD looks awesome & I feel no need to upgrade. But that was an unusually nice transfer. As nice as the Ultimate Bonds are, they weren't THAT good.
Bluray on a 26 inch screen ? ) Sorry, that just doesn't work at all...
Oh lemme tell ya at that size with that clarity it sometimes feels like I'm lookin' through a window. Iron Man is particularly mind-blowing.

As long as you are happy....but you need a screen in excess of 32inches to get a true bluray image...anything less and it is a complete waste, the screen can't handle it...buy a bigger TV and enjoy 'true' bluray -{
I'm at a point with this screen here where I'm seeing all manner of skin anomalies in close ups. I have precisely as much of the BR image as I want, thank you very much! )

As with everything modern in terms of the last 2 centuries - Sir Miles is wrong!
If he'd have any basic knowledge in physics or optics, he'd know that screen sizes highly depend on the viewing distance.
A 26' Full HD screen can reveal more detail from 1 meter than a 50' screen from 5 meters.
So the universal statement that a certain screen size is necessary for full enjoyment of HD is simply rubbish
So, Sir Miles - anything under 32 inch is complete waste?
How do you explain that these:
are working phantastic with panels much smaller than 32 inch?
