Why not have a 'how to use the forum, ya DUMBASS!' section?

Piggybacking on Higgy's (yeah a nausiating mental image) suggestion of people posting piddly little images, why doesn't the forum have a new section created to help newcomers use the forum.

There have been several issues where we keep going round in circles, such as;

'How much is this worth?'
'Here take a look at this piddly little image!'
'I know you've probably covered this a million times, but I couldn't be arsed searching, so.....'
'I've got this for sale on ebay, do I use the 'for sale on ebay' thread?'
'I've only joined to sell something'

Would it be an idea to have these, and other topics, covered by a section of stickies so that people can read up on how to post images, place adverts, search for information etc. and avoid us all rolling our eyes and explaining again and again about how much stuff is worth etc.

It'd save a lot of wasted time, typing and people getting pissed off.

Thoughts?

    As it's fook all ! :)) Although I can see how it must be annoying

    Toot toot! It's up my bum.

    Collecting and merch a dark and mysterious place? Well there's always the dress up boys to keep things ticking over, the prop lads to make it proper (get it, PROPer) interesting, granny keeps us all in check and if things get too dark higgybumbum can always get his size 26 clod-hoppers out to brighten everyone's day.

    It's a good idea, though a more diplomatic title may be in order. :D

    It would require SiCo to create a new section, but we could open a thread and make it sticky if that's suficient meantime?

    Edit: it would have to be handled tactfully, which automatically rules out several people here. I have an idea in mind for who to run this, please PM me with thoughts.

    Yeah that might do the trick. Substitute 'DUMBASS' with 'Noobs' then if it's really that important. Spoil sport. :p

    Wouldn't need anyone to 'run' it as such, just needs a few 'Read this before posting' guides writing up and left for people to read through before, erm.. posting.

    Your diplomacy tips have always been appreciated, 007. Before opening the thread, let's discuss ideas here (title, format, etc).
  • minigeffminigeff EnglandPosts: 7,884MI6 Agent
    Ok, simply a new section on the front page titled 'How to use the best forum in the world ever cos all other bond forums are for poofs'.

    Then inside that section have a series of guides either stickied or locked so people can't moan about 'zee roolz'.

    In each guide you simply state the nature of things, ie;

    'How to post images'

    When posting images, first make a sensible decision if the image is copyright, ie screenshots or contain trademarks. If it is, simply post a link to the image so it is not displayed on AJB.

    If the image isn't copyright material, then you can hotlink to the image by either clicking the image button in the dialogue box, or by typing *** and pasting the link in between the ][

    This method of showing off your sh1t is prefered as links to photobucket accounts often result in pathetic piddly little images being displayed which no one can see properly, forcing you to click on the image, leaving you in pop up and scam hell.

    Hope this helps, IDIOT.

    I think this is a great idea...however, how do we get people to actually READ this information...it's all very well telling people what to do and how to do it, but getting them to do it is another thing.

    Perhaps when someone first joins, they are taken to a page where all this stuff is and they have to tick a box to say they've read it, before they post.

    It's not fool proof, but at least they can't say they didn't know...

    You still kinda think people will just ignore the rules and wear stupid footwear anyway....I mean, just post what and where they want... :D :#

    Doesn't make minigeff's idea a bad one though !

    That option isn't available to us without SiCo's involvement, so meantime let's stick to a dedicated thread which we (all of us, not just the mods) should direct newcomers to.
    And that title isn't a goer, either. Anyone got a better idea?

    Happy with most of that, although some rephrasing might be in order

    Not going to fly. Something along the lines of "...please don't hesitate to ask for further info" would be my thinking.
