I've said it elsewhere but if someone as basically stupid as Ben Carson can be a neurosurgeon, then someone as basically gorgeous as Christmas Jones can be a nuclear physicist. )
Revisted TWINE after a long time. This appears to be Brosnan's best performances till that point. He looks settled in the role. The PTS kicks off the film nicely. Background score is good too. Marceau does the job.
The film has some good moments but overall feels unexciting compared to many of the other Bond films .... Both the film and Dr. Christmas Jones are strong contenders for the title of the worst Bond film and the worst BG respectively

I think the film is quite different because it almost plays out more like a drama than an action thriller. The action is sort of "Inserted Here" as the case with many of the Brosnan films - for me, TWINE's psychological battles eventually won by Bond make this one of the best for me.
You're right, Pierce is very comfortable in this and IMO it's his best performance.
The World Is Not Enough is the Bond family motto though - and I think it ties in nicely with the oil plot line.
It's plausible to understand his dislike of TWINE.
I love it though, although I can't deny that I'm a Brosnan fanboy.
We all have our biases.
Sophie Marceu is my main issue with the movie. I'm not a big fan of Elektra.

Overall, although I want to like the film, I find it very off-putting because of it's schizophrenic pace. Does it want to be an action film or a drama? I would be happy with either, but it doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. I would have liked them to have spent more time on it or included the extra 30 minutes that was cut because test audiences declared it "too long". I think the extra running time would have made it a much better, more cohesive film. I hope the extra 30 minutes will resurface on a Bluray release some day.

Interesting to see someone who has TWINE as a least fave Brosnan Era Bond film.
It seems most pick either DAD or TND as their least fave Brosnan Era BF. I think I've never seen GE get that position.

Agree. The film is confused. TWINE's strong points are not strong enough to overshadow its weak points .... Spectre in a way suffers from similar dilemma but its strong parts are very strong to overshadow the weak points
One can categorize films such as DN and FRWL as ones that balance action, drama and espionage superbly
This might be controversial, but I watched this today and it's Imo the best of the Brosnan films, PB is brilliant as Bond in this and it's got a great cast.

The thing with Brosnan is, that GE, TND and TWINE are all movies that get mentioned as "favourite Brosnan" movie a lot by us die-hard fans of the franchise.
I believe GoldenEye is one of the most loved Bond movies in general.
This shows that Brosnan has made three out of four movies that can be considered to have a strong fan base.
And don't forget that DAD, just for instance, on Rotten Tomatoes isn't at the bottom, not even in the bottom 3.
For me GoldenEye is the best with Tomorrow Never Dies almost as good. Both are in my Top 10. And all those in my Top 10 are considered to be bloody great by me actually even my Top 12, ha!
Ok, it's a TWINE thread, so I'll say something about it ) it's not one of my favourites because I didn't like the twist of Elektra becoming the baddie, M being stupid and Renard being a total bore.

I liked the twist a lot. The other two, yeah, I guess. But to ME a Bond film works or doesn't mainly because of BOND. And Pierce delivered the goods every time. Fook HIM if he thinks he didn't. )

It's certainly not controversial with me!
"The tough man of the world. The Secret Agent. The man who was only a silhouette." - Ian Fleming, Moonraker (1955).
I think Carlyle gets the job done as Renard, although as a BH, he doesn't touch Red Grant, Oddjob, or Jaws.
For me, he's an alright henchman, but certainly not a great one.
I do like that he's generally immune to pain though.

Halle Berry is the worst Bond girl ever! Her acting was terrible. Infact she makes Denise Richards seem like Meryl Streep.
