I don't think it has the repeat factor like Skyfall or Casino Royale, aside from die hard Bond fans I don't think many will want to sit through a 2 and half hour movie again for a repeat screening. I think it make around 600 or 700 million, but I be very surprised if this breaks 1 billion to be honest.
I will be SHOCKED if it beats Skyfall. It does not have a great song to back it up promotional wise. Yes, I know some of you very much enjoy the song (TP), but it is not getting much airplay here in the States. Many of my friends don't even know what the song is for the film yet, whereas during Skyfall, I'd hear it all the time in the car, gym, and stores. Skyfall also had the benefit of the song saying the name of the film over and over again. There is also a lot of competition in theatres right now as well. There is so much hype around the new Star Wars film that it is probably taking away a lot of attention from Spectre.

You make some great points here. I've brought up before how a song that doesn't include the name of the film isn't going to help the film as much. Adele's song (whether it's a better song or not) had more power to promote Skyfall.
I've seen a few kiosk ads for Spectre in New York city, but so far it isn't everywhere like Skyfall was. Someone I know says she wasn't aware there's a new Bond film coming out, but I even know a few people who aren't aware of the new Star Wars film.

Quite so...but counting posters is a dodgy random sample to base a prediction on! My gut tells me that SP will do well indeed...and that many will call it a 'failure' if it doesn't shatter records

The underwhelming word of mouth will eventually kick in once those who booked weeks in advance have seen the film. It's not going to do Skyfall level of business.

It will certainly do well, but it's not going to beat Skyfall's records. A lot more people I'm around seemed to be aware of Skyfall than they are of Spectre. When I mention the Bond movie, even after all the adverts, people still thought that Bond was done after Skyfall since it was the 50th Anniversary and Daniel Craig finished his trilogy (film series only come in trilogies).

Fair enough, but ultimately the actual numbers will tell the story, and I think it will hard for any film fan in the US to be unaware that a new James Bond film is in release; that's a 'top of the hour' news story.

Bond fandom is a curious thing. They didn't just rerelease AVTAK, did they?

To be fair, it has been getting a lot of great reviews. Aside from the odd negative one here or there, it's not been getting to much underwhelming word of mouth to be fair.
How well Spectre does will, in large part, depend on how it does in China. Rogue Nation did about $150 million in China. Since I expect Spectre to do about 1/3 better than Rogue Nation overall, I would expect Spectre to do around $200 million in China, which is about $140 million more than SF made.
If Spectre does only 80% of what SF did in the US and the UK, it should do better than $900 million.

I'm moving to China in the next month, I'll do my bit to help that happen.
Forbes report :
"With $6.4 million in Monday night previews alone, and a $9.2 million Tuesday, Spectre has earned $15.6 million in its first “1.25 days” in the United Kingdom. It looks like Spectre is another giant hit for the ongoing 007 franchise. That’s the biggest Tuesday gross in UK box office history and larger than Skyfall‘s opening day, which fell on a Friday."

Hmmm indeed. If that's correct that Spectre made more in the UK on Tuesday than Skyfall made on Friday, that's massive. It's a big gamble to open on a Monday, especially when most cinemas were only able to have one or two screenings that day because of the late start. I suspect we'll see some pretty massive numbers this weekend and I am hoping that it's similarly huge in North America next week. The reviews I have seen (I've read the headlines and looked at the numbers of stars but I'm avoiding the actual reviews themselves) seem to be overwhelmingly positive with the majority four stars or higher. We know the diehards will turn out regardless, but if huge box office numbers and positive reviews continue, that should draw in plenty of regular cinema-goers as well. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it breaks the SF numbers!
Don't forget it's half term in the UK...Strong cinema audiences during the day every day this week...
So in retrospect it's pretty brilliant for them to open SP early in the week, and run the table in the UK---extra days to make bank before Mockingjay II eventually swoops in.

Because it's getting a great response across the board, not an underwhelming one. You should try looking broadly at others opinions/reviews instead of concentrating inwardly on your own and those few that echo them.

From today's Variety webpage:
"'Spectre' is off to a sizzling start at the U.K. box office.
"The latest James Bond adventure has deployed its license to kill to the tune of $24.5 million over its first two days in theaters. That muscular haul includes a Wednesday gross of $8.8 million. The picture has now scored the biggest Tuesday and Wednesday grosses in U.K. history."

Except it's not "getting a great response across the board". It's clearly really rather mixed. Your description of my analysis is illogical and demeaning, by the way.

I don't understand your reply or your use of such an emoticon, so perhaps you should indeed take a rest. There's an amount of disappointment with the film out there, and even those who like it point to obvious flaws that prevent it from being a great film. I gave it a 7/10 and that seems to be a common score. A good but not great Bond film. Expect this one to have strong openings everywhere but disappear from the multiplexes more rapidly than Skyfall as the buzz surrounding that film isn't there this time around.
