"SPECTRE try'n' 'a kill me!"

In OHMSS, when Tracy assists Bond in making his escape, she asks him why their pursuers are shooting at him. Lazenby says something like, "'spect 'ey're try'n' 'a kill me!" I've never been quite sure whether his reply as performed is simply an ill-conceived attempt at an Americanisation of the line, "I expect they're trying to kill me!" or whether, as well, there's a deliberate, lame attempt at some punning: "SPECTRE trying to kill me!" Anyway, it's irritating.
Critics and material I don't need. I haven't changed my act in 53 years.

He's being nonchalant and being typically British in downplaying the. He says, 'I suspect they're trying to kill me'. The sound isn't good as his line is drowned out. No Americanism is being attempted. Just poor sound.

Asp has it correct -- it's muttered dryly.
