S D Studios / Red Grants C-96 Mauser

I have been offered one of these but not sure of their value / rarity. I appreciate that items are only worth what others wish to pay for them but by the same token is never good to buy something only to find out that when they do come for sale they are sell at substantially less. So on that basis can anyone ever remember one coming up for sale or how much it brought ? All feedback welcome.

the price is debatable - if you buy this, you are collection SD stuffs and are willing to pay extra

Very rare, I have NEVER seen one for sale in this country, but at the end of the day SD only made the plaque that comes with it, I guess it depends if you are a completest or not, this is the only SD item that I haven't owned, not sure if it is as rare as the P99 of which there were only two, but I bet the numbers are very low.

The Mauser modal its self is also rare, and the only other opportunity you would have to own one would be to go down the deactivated rout.

Does anyone have a photo of this item? I'm no expert on SD (or anything for that matter!), but I've never even heard of it before.

Edit: Found this photo here: http://www.yourprops.com/SD-Studios-F-R-W-L-Red-Grant-replica-movie-prop-weapon-James-Bond-From-Russia-With-Love-1963-YP16040.html I'm guessing from Pete's comments and others that the limited edition of 500 was optimistic?

Thanks everyone. I will see how much it is. Am I correct in thinking it wont be a decativated gun but simply a screen replica made of metal with no internal working parts sort of thing ?

Doesn't Denix still make Mauser replicas? People use them for Star Wars blaster replicas all the time. I am guessing a Denix was the basis of the SD version.

You beat me to it Dom :D though I only have pics from the flyer issued by SD

It is just a replica that was made in the early 90's

You can't really go by the numbers on the plaques, I have seen two thunderball breathers numbered the same, Im sure if Ed sees this he will be able to tell you how many there are out there, or at least have an idea.

You idiots, that's not red grants Mauser, it's Han 'flying yes, landing? No!' Solo's blaster.

Just to confirm, it was an off the shelf Denix Mauser C96 which was at the time the cheapest replica Mauser on the market. Lets just be kind & say the quality wasn't great! :#

I remember Steve buying about 20 of these Denix Mausers. Nothing special done to them except place them on a stand with his plaque. I originally suggested Steve offer this item as well as the replica Beretta.

I lent Steve my MGC Beretta for him to make a mold and cast in resin. He did have the machine shop make metal Suppressors that screwed into the gun.

That price is insane!!! You can still buy that very same Denix Broomhandle so anyone buying that is really only paying that amount is because they want the stand and plaque. Donk is correct when stating these are cheaply made.

Towards the end it was cheaper to buy then resell things like the Maruzen P99 & PPK, these Denix Broomhandles and cast resin Beretta and simply stick it on a stand with a plaque.
