The following press release has been issued regarding the Riviera Hotel & Casino, location for all of the classic craps scenes in DAF with SC & Lana Wood. If you want to soak up the atmosphere one more time you've got to be quick.
The Riviera hotel-casino officially announced Wednesday it will close May 4 at noon, according to a news release.
The announcement comes shortly after the historic Las Vegas landmark was sold to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority for up to $191 million in February.
An estimated 1,000 job will be eliminated.
“We greatly appreciate the expressions of fondness and loyalty for ‘The Riv’ from our guests since ground first broke in 1954 and through the years. More importantly we want to acknowledge and applaud our associates who have worked to create enduring memories for all of our guests,” the release said.
“This is what will be remembered long after the walls have come down. We look forward to making the coming weeks fun, exciting and memorable.”
The Riviera will celebrate its 60th anniversary on April 20.

When we are in Vegas - it's always difficult to choose the Hotel.
There are so many modern and luxurious hotels for cheap rates and on the other hand the "traditional" Casinos like the Flamingo, Rio, Riviera and others are really worn down with only slightly cheaper rates - but these offer still the "old" flair of 30-40 years back.
No matter which one we chose, we are regretting not going for the other option.
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
All the old school ones are slowly disappearing (I believe the film "Casino" was also shot there), more should be done to preserve these cultural landmarks. But at the end of the day it's all about $$$
I stayed in the Stardust when I got married in Vegas, and that too is now sadly gone
Still one can't deny the importance this had in building the new strip as we see it today. It was one of the first and oldest resorts on the Strip.
Glad I got to see it, albeit past its prime last fall.

Isn't it a shame that anything over thirty years old is demolished?
Not 300, not 3000, but 30 years old
I agree
