Ok,
im resisting the urges on buying a pre-owned DB9 from the 2005-2007 era. Looking at some options which suit my budget. Obivously, i realize i must go for a low milage one
My most major concern, is I keep hearing the car is so damn expensive to maintain. Obviously, i can't afford buying a $150k new one ( those come with extended warranties).
I would really appreciate to hear from all Bond lifestyle members who own or have extensive knowledge of Aston Martins to share with me their tips and expertise

+1 Don't own one would love a DBS (just saving the £100K down payment and checking my lottery tickets). But I have been considering the DB9 as an option as well. I had never considered it until I attended a course last year and someone there had one as his ride (even though the DBS in CR was DB9 with styling kit). He was Royal Navy Reserve (spooky) but I would not hold that against him as a land lubber. He advised serving not cheap (no surprise) but he had no problems at all over the 2 years of ownership (and second hand). But he did buy from AM dealer (not cheap either not sure if it was fully serviced by the dealer before purchase).
Have to say though taking her for a spin was VERY nice but strangely did feel like sitting on the floor for me given my ride is a 4x4.
Patience is my friend - I will watch this space.
Good luck sometimes you just have to take the plunge after all life's to short :-)

Like Skippy, I have a V8 Vantage which I've run for the past 5 years. It's a great car and even after 5 years I still get a great buzz just walking up to the car. The cars themselves are very reliable and robust. Providing they've been properly maintained, they shouldn't cause you any issues. As above you have to factor in the annual service cost (£1000 per year for a V8, but about 50% more for a V12 DB9), Car Tax in UK (£500) and fuel costs 17 MPG. Tyres, can cost £250 each so you may need to factor that in too. Clutches are the weak point and can be expensive to replace so check the age/mileage done on that. But the prices of the Model Year Cars you're looking at appear to have bottomed out and have been pretty steady for the last couple of years. They may not devalue much further until the next Generation of cars appears. (2017 for a V8???) The V8, DB9 and DBS all share the same seats, dashboard and basic interior too. The V8s also have a hatchback and larger more practical boot. Definitely worth a look.
I agree with Skippy, if you have the opportunity, go into this with your eyes open and a little research and you'll be fine. Do it!! You won't regret it!! -{
If you have to ask if you can afford it, you probably can't.
It's harsh, but true. Although they usually produce back of the hand bitingly gorgeous cars, and yes if I won the lotto theres only one marque I'd be itching to buy, but these things are extremely expensive money pits. They are fantasticly cool cars but the service bills are not for the faint hearted.
Buy a jag instead, it's good to be bad :v

I can echo skippys advice and data above, and agree with U27 that the pistolheads forum is probably the best place for Aston advice - certainly AJB is not. (witness the witless comments from our two-tonic and a taxi brethren.)
However if I may add, the db9 is a great car, and has not suffered from the AM hallmark which is terrible reliability, terrible service from the dealers, and terrible back up from the company.
That said, AM is like a beautiful woman, costly, wonderful to be with, but regularly a nightmare and only for the stiff of lip.
The service costs of db9 are very reasonable given the status, and as long as u get a good one (caveat emptor) shouldn't be unreasonable.
As above, it's not a true 4 seater, but I see you are just married so unlikely to worry about kid size just yet, and unless you like ferrying adults around the extra space and the overall dimension of the car are a plus. The V8's are lovely but it's not for everyone, and note, a DBS is just a DB9 with a body kit and some seriously impressive technology ... Ie unless u care stick a body kit on her and pretend she's a DBS
I'd suggest u look at the db9 volante which is the best value of all, and am guessing you're in USA so it may suit your climate. $70k is possible.
Finally, AM dealers are definitely endangered species and you should definitely haggle - it's nonsense to think that you have to take the sticker price on any AM - in the current climate I'd start with 20% off the sticker and play hardball. The dealer will call you back within an hour.
Note, end of quarters is a serious buyers advantage point given the method of commission pay.
Be tough, take no prisoners, there are a lot about.
And good luck - note, the smile of satisfaction will always be worth it, despite the occasional headache.
It might be good to be bad, but jag will always be a poor mans Aston.....

Since my car purchase was hugely influenced by Bond movies, I wanted to to share my experience with folks who can understand the James bond standards that I'm looking for with this purchase. but yes i will certainly check the forums to get more info.

As you might remember i just got married, no kids yet but id love to have the option to place an infant carseat in the back. from what I get from both of you that it is possible to do so in the DB9. Im pretty much set on the DB9 but 'm curious to know your opinion and which model would you recommend ? ?:)

Indeed, which is why I went for mine, because I could afford to spend a few grand on a car instead of a service for it. In fact I've just had a full annual service for less than the cost of a tyre for a DB9, happy days

Agree Boffer, again especially the soft top.
Try Ruznak in Pasadena.
But one thing with the maza's - they have lost their distinctive look now that the new getenation of jags are similar, and they are very, very common in California.
But they drive, handle, and sound great.

I remember it was quite tight with my 6' 5", had to sit sideways, awkwardly balancing my rear on the high middle part between the seats, but we did it and visited some cool Bond locations, does anyone recognise this one?
