I recently re-watched AVTAK, and boy, it's essentially the same movie as Goldfinger. It's a solid remake, really. I'm just surprised that I've just now noticed how similar, and in all honesty identical, the two movies are.
How ironic that GF is my favorite Bond film and AVTAK is my least favorite. I never really paid much attention to the plot similarities but perhaps that helps to account for my animus towards AVTAK. It took my favorite Bond movie in which the filmmakers got everything right, tried to remake it, and in the process got everything wrong! Curses!

You should watch Roger Moore's movie Gold. It's a remake of Goldfinger, and A View to a Kill is more a remake of Gold.
Indeed, I believe I saw that a while ago when I was younger, and it was pretty good. Almost a lost Bond film in many respects.
GF's plot - corporate megalomanic wanting to increase profits by doing something dastardly - is repeated in LALD, AVTAK, TND, TWINE, and QoS.
While AVTAK has a scene which is almost exactly the same (on the blimp) I don't really see the "remake" label. It takes elements and has coincidental similarities (like US final location), sure, but AVTAK still has its own originalities.

It's probably the most rehashed plot of the Bonds.
In response to the OP, I agree that the later Bond films CAN take away from GF. If GF is one of the first films you saw in the series, this is unlikely. If, however, it's one of the last films you see, then the films that repeat the formula may take away from GF's charm and uniqueness, because you would have seen it all before.
This happened to me. GF was one of the last Bond films I saw and while the first half definitely has its charms, the second half is pretty typical of the Bond formula. It's also pretty dull because Bond does little in the drab US settings until Fort Knox.

"Better make that two."
