My memory might deceive me, but in Christ Wood's book I think there was a scene where Bond happens upon a weightless sex orgy. I am not making this up. Not in the film, unless it got cut.
Yes, there was a sex chamber that was a clear globe; Chris Wood's got some wild imagination with a large libido to boot!
I just finished reading the latest MI6 magazine about Lewis Gilbert's "Monorail Trilogy." It mentioned how the sets for the space station were so large that they monopolized the major French studios and took up every space possible. They made a conscious decision to include space sounds for dramatic effect where scientifically there should be non; which is what they also did with Star Wars. I think the space station is functional and to the question about sleeping quarters, bathrooms, etc., just because these weren't shown doesn't mean that they didn't exist; logically, for the needs of human habitation the existence of those things are implied and looking at the miniature of the station, there are several sub-structures of differing sizes that could account for those.
As for the laser battle, around the time when MR was released the US military had already been experimenting with weaponized lasers for conventional fighting (vs. the larger scale Star Wars satellite weapons program in the Reagan era, which is not too far off from the plots in DAF, GE and DAD). There were experiments of mounting lasers on fighter jets but the official reports from the US Military is that it didn't work. Because the MR shuttle launch predated the actual first shuttle launch, it wouldn't be too fantastic to interpolate the use of laser rifles and if the opposing forces did have them, I don't see a great disparity on them using the lasers the way they did.
Another important thing to note, apart from the purposeful artistic license used to bend the laws of science, the producers did make a point to not show fiery explosions in a vacuum, so for those scenes of flame-less explosions on the space station, they used shotguns to blast off chunks of the space station miniature.

I have a similar fantasy taking a sledge hammer to the famous cities of the world in Lego Land!

Being brought up on Thunderbirds and Space 1999 etc, I loved the space station. :x
I think it's a marvellous piece of design, and so well revealed in the film, slowly being
Unveiled by the sun light. -{
I guess Drax was going to stay there until nature had taken care of the dead bodies ?
Then repopulate the uninhabited areas first ? ( don't care as I'm one of the beautiful
people, so I'd have been OK !)
The space battle is simply brilliant, all done using " old school" techniques -{ no
Industrial light & magic needed the visuals mixed with the superb music of John
Barry :x makes for a very memorable scene. -{
-{
My current 10 favorite:
1. GE 2. MR 3. OP 4. TMWTGG 5. TSWLM 6. TND 7. TWINE 8.DN 9. GF 10. AVTAK
I've also posted before, that the explosions, were the huge oxygen tanks on the
Space station " Fueling " the fires. ( that's how I explain it to myself) ) also
Every sci-fi film gets it wrong, as you can't see lasers in space ? ( that's what I've
Been told ), so I wouldn't pick on Moonraker too much. -{ it had to put Bums on
Seats, which it did by the millions.
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
I even made my own as a teen, from a rubber ball, covered in leftovers from
Several airfix kits, to form the long arms stretching out from the central core.
It probably looked crap but it looked good to me.

One of the shuttles used to make regular trips to pick up
Mrs Gladys Scrungebucket, Drax's long term cleaning woman.
" Cheap rates and always on time, I highly recommend her" he wrote
On her phone box business card.

" That's all well and good, Mr Drax but I told you I don't do
Thursdays, and that hoover isn't up to much. I've begged
You for a Dyson, and that big fella with the metal teeth, you
Should see the state of his bedroom, it worse than my teenage
Nephew's room ! Laves his pants all over the place. If it wasn't for
Me getting it on with Cavendish, the butler, I'd be gone !"

1. For Your Eyes Only 2. The Living Daylights 3 From Russia with Love 4. Casino Royale 5. OHMSS 6. Skyfall
Although for Spectre didn't they film part of it in another very ancient
settlement in Mexico, with similar pyramids as those we saw in MR ?
Don't know if it was for any scenes or whether it is just for atmosphere ?

I haven't, but a novel wouldn't be able to take advantage of Ken Adam's beautifully designed set.
