In SF Bond gets shot & falls 100 feet into a river & lives.
But it's okay because it's Dan.
In TND Bond shoots a machine gun a lot.
But that's not okay because it's Pierce.
Bond politics.... 8-)
Bond getting shot and falling three hundred feet into a river and living is just Bond being Bond. If he got shot and fell ten feet and lived that would not be very interesting.
The important thing is that it's possible to get shot and live and it's possible to fall three hundred feet (or a lot more) and live unlike the Goldeneye PTS where Bond does the impossible and catchs up with a more aerodynamic airplane in mid-air. When that happens we're in the realm of the super-human and that's not James Bond.
Bond exists in a world of unlikely but possible.
I love the plane stunt in GE, despite it's impossibility, but to each their own.

I think the improbability comes more from how much time it takes for the plane to fall before it hits the ground. Was Bond really that high, after jumping off a really high dam? The whole landscape there is impossible.

There are plotholes a mile wide and impossible feats aplenty in most of the Bond films, even the classics. SKYFALL hasn't really got that many, and many points people are confused about will rise again in SPECTRE.

Me too. That was back when audiences were fun. When Bond let go of Alec, and he hit the bottom, there was clapping, but when it turned out he wasn't quite dead yet, and the scaffolding hit him there was clapping & laughing & hoots!
Those were the days... -{

You still get it on opening night at the Odeon Leicester Sq. I love the atmosphere there.

The audience I was with was far less charitable -- lots of laughs and snickers at the scene rather than with it. It was as silly and badly done as Captain Kirk falling off the mountain.

What are the plotholes in the first three Bond films?
Does anybody here (besides chrisisall) think that Craig's performance on QoS was better than his performance on SF?
I think it's much better; his emotional crisis in QoS felt more believable and justified, whereas in Skyfall it felt more like it was playing to the audience by trying to show a 'realistic' Bond.

I think that it was meant to be exaggerated and comic rather than subtle. I'm a big fan of Sean Bean so I was a bit disappointed when Alec inevitably lost!

What emotional crisis? The Vesper story is touched on at the very end of the film, but apart from that I don't get any hint of it.

Really ???
The whole film has this running through it...it what starts the movie off too...you must have seen about 20 mins of the movie to miss this !
I do think Craig pulls off Dark Bond quite well in QoS, whereas his Bond has a lighter tone in SF, which I think he doesn't execute quite as well.
I do think he does well in SF in the dialogues with Silva, Severine, and Q, but he sometimes goes dry imo.
So, in terms of Craig's performances as 007, I think it goes like this for me:
QoS
SF
CR

It's running throughout- the whole theme of the film is whether Bond (and Camille) can truly avenge what has happened to them. Because at the end of the film Bond made the decision to go back to following orders and give up on personal agendas, it was annoying in Skyfall that he'd regressed. Of course it wouldn't be as fun if Bond was completely professional but you do need to get the sense that it is vital that MI6 hold onto him. Skyfall doesn't convince me that they would take the gamble on him.
Even taking into account the "internal logic" of Bond films and this film in particular, the story just breaks credibility and for that reason it can't be a classic.

I love Goldfinger and it's one of my favorite movies and my No. 3 Bond film. But it's full of plot holes.
The whole scene with Mr. Solo is full of plot holes, starting with a high level Mafia hoodlum traveling without bodyguards. Why not take the gold out before crushing the car? Why not transfer the body to another cheaper car instead of destroying a brand new Lincoln? And, most of all, the Lincoln weighed 5000 pounds, not counting the gold but the Ford Ranchero pickup the crushed car was dropped into had a maximum load capacity of 1,000 pounds. I wince everytime I see that scene, thinking the axles would get crushed.
But it is a really cool scene in a really cool movie.

I liked the impressionistic skull face in the block. But even as a young teen I figured that pickup should have ended up with its nose end pointing to the sky with that much weight dropped into it! )

Well, if we're going to endow Bond with super powers, I vote for X-ray vision.
There's entirely too little X-ray vision in movies today for my taste. )
