To be fair to Brosnan, they modelled his Bond as a comic Roger Moore type because people didn't take to the Dalton grit. The filmmakers were giving the innuendos and one-liners that were popular and I don't think Brosnan has the acting ability to be able to sneak in something more serious. The films are silly and fantastical because that's what seemed to go down well.
I don't like Roger Moore's Bond films; to me, the way that the female characters are portrayed is indicative of a sexist attitude that has luckily died out. Connery's Bond at least has a macho charm that made it plausible that the Bond girls would give into him but the Moore ones just felt like they were forced into it. The comedy seems to be at the expense of the women.
Whilst I think Brosnan is too weak as Bond, I think his films have interesting villains. I don't think Carver works but I like that the filmmakers were imaginative in trying to create memorable villains and they don't feel as sexist.
I thought Casino Royale was spot-on for a post 9/11 Bond. Whilst the Craig films are more serious, I feel that they shy away from modern politics- despite Skyfall's insistence that Bond is operating in a modern world, I don't buy it. The Craig films aren't fantastical enough to get away with ignoring the political climate in the way that the Brosnan films do- although I do like the glamorous aspects. The direction Skyfall has taken Craig's Bond in is awful though and unfortunately Spectre continues that. Hopefully the next Bond actor will be able to sweep that under the carpet.
so let's do my job and defend Pierce on here...
firstly I would not say he is not capable of more serious acting watch butterfly on a wheel or the november man. it is simply not true because he had to do ehat the producers told him and after a SERIOUS take on James Bond (Licence To Kill) has been not received very well they went (undestandablly) in the opposite direction.
then his films are solid (IMO superb), they are easy to watch and not more illogical than others.
Pierce has the looks, the attitude to play this part.
but as it has been mentioned befire, everybody has their own opinion that should be respected but not necessarily understood by the fellow members but please do not let this thread turn into a Pierce Brosnan-critizising-marathon maybe you can find good aspects about him too and list them up.
of course a thread entitled like this one is cause great discussion {:)
now JUST a question please do not take it the wrong way as it is purely out of interest:
@ Lady Ice which are the Bond films you like?
"You see Mr.Bond, you can't kill my dreams...but my dreams can kill you.Time to face destiny" - "Time to face gravity"

No problem: I like OHMSS, TLD, LTK, DN, and despite Brosnan feeling like he's overshadowed by other elements, I like GE and TWINE. I like CR and I haven't seen all of QOS but I quite enjoyed that. For me, a Bond film doesn't have to be perfect for me to like it and I think that strong elements in other areas can compensate for weaknesses. It's the icky sexual attitudes of the Moore era that makes me write off the films. Connery's films have stereotypical gender roles but because he is very macho, you can see why the Bond girls would find him appealing, whereas in Moore's films, the laugh is that he can implausibly bag all these beautiful women. They go to bed with Bond because the genre dictates that it must be so.
+1, HTH -{
Pierce seems to get a lot of stick for his films. Which he neither, wrote, directed
filmed or edited. plenty of others really should he getting some of the " abuse "
Directed at him.
I too think Pierce is a much better actor, than what he got to show as Bond. The films
Had weak scripts, high on action but low on character. He has done many films showing
The range he has as an actor.
Many have said this " dislike" is par for the course for the " Last fella" to have played
007. Craig will be getting it in the neck, when the " other fella" takes over.
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
since we all are Bond fans or even fanatics we should focuse more on the positive aspects rather than on the negative ones! (which are clearly so much less) ?:)
since I grew up with Bond and he really is a MAJOR part of my life (sorta Bond is my religion) I always found and will find it very difficult when the franchise is being critizised (already starting with reviews in the tv magazine ) ) and will likely defend it (especially my boy Pierce )
hope this gives you a quick insight in how I feel

Then lets concentrate on this..
Purvis and Wade
The directors - Tamahori, Spottiswoode and Apted
The Casting - Halle, Denise Richards, Jonathan Pryce, Gustav Graves
The music - David Arnold
The feel of the Bonds - what were they trying to do with his films?
With Craig its obvious - Casino Royale gave them plenty of impetus. You get to know character, plot etc all through the prism of a pseudo-fleming. The nitty gritty of Flemings writing really comes out. The films can be seen as Fleming novels with Dalton the same, Moores humour and Connerys machismo.
But what a Brozzers films actually about?
I think it is down to the director...
1. For Your Eyes Only 2. The Living Daylights 3 From Russia with Love 4. Casino Royale 5. OHMSS 6. Skyfall
Many have said this " dislike" is par for the course for the " Last fella" to have played
007. Craig will be getting it in the neck, when the " other fella" takes over.
ummm...not sure. I think the new fella could be on a hiding to nothing - particularly if he doesn't come off as well..
1. For Your Eyes Only 2. The Living Daylights 3 From Russia with Love 4. Casino Royale 5. OHMSS 6. Skyfall
The next guy has some big shoes to fill, I know I would not like to
be the next actor, to step up to the mark. ....... Then again with
SF and Spectre, the producers seem to have their " groove" back.
So, I think the films will continue to go from strength to strength. -{

I very much agree
1.On Her Majesties Secret Service 2.The Living Daylights 3.license To Kill 4.The Spy Who Loved Me 5.Goldfinger
An example, was last night killing time waiting for my wife to
buy something I watched TMWTGG on my phone -{ This
Is not my favourite Bond film, but I've still watched it hundreds of
Times. ) and I'll probably watch it hundreds more. I know where the
Mistakes are, I know when members of the crew pop up in mirrors etc,
and I still don't care ! These are classic, entertaining movies, which I
Can't get enough of.
For me, watching Bond I'm brought right back to that 12 yr old TP, sitting
On the floor in front of the Telly, for the first time to watch something called
" Dr No" -{ open mouthed, in awe, of the sheer brilliance I was seeing for the
First Time.
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
Everytime I watch a Bond, it always brings up Memories of the 00 Heaven Season on ITV during the late 90's/ Early 2000's. Watching a new Bond Film was the Highlight of my Week, it was incredibly exciting.
1.On Her Majesties Secret Service 2.The Living Daylights 3.license To Kill 4.The Spy Who Loved Me 5.Goldfinger
I can remember getting so excited ( butterflies in the stomach) just seeing
an advert on itv for up coming summer or Christmas movies, just to see a glimpse
Of which new Bond film they would be showing.
( I even taped, some old film adverts to get a clip from the Bond to watch
Again, God I was a sad kid !) )
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
Before I received the Ultimate Edition DVD Set for Christmas 2002, I owned several of the Films on official VHS Releases (And some taped off the Television)
1.On Her Majesties Secret Service 2.The Living Daylights 3.license To Kill 4.The Spy Who Loved Me 5.Goldfinger
) Yes, I had them taped off the TV with the itv, identity poster in between the
advert breaks, when I wasn't quick enough with the remote. and before that
I'd record them on audio cassette. ........... I guess, I must be a fan. )
