Moore on screen vs in real life

I always find it odd that Moore in real life has bedded so many women, and has a genuine charm about him. But in his films, he has the sex appeal of 2 week old potato.

Yet from say 1960 -1985 he had a very successful career as a leading man and was regarded as desirable in the popular press.
Not bad for a spoiling spud.

    In real life?
Well-mannered, jet-set lifestyle, classically handsome, rich, attractive voice, elegant... Why wouldn't a woman be interested?

But do you think his relationships in the films are believable?

Most of them seemed force. And Moore got really creepy-pervy at times as 007.

He had a way of confiding with women - making sure they were taken care of. He seems to be intimate with women - as if he is sharing some secret. And of course the best aphrodisiac - he makes them laugh

Offstage, he's a gem and loves talking about Bond

Moore is one of my all time favourite Actors -{ It would be brilliant to have a Cup of Tea and a Chat with him.

He's basically the Ambassador for the entire Bond Franchise.

Believability wasn't what he was aiming at, AC, he has always been very frank about that.

Moore was beaten up by at least two of his wives (enough to require medical treatment), so his relationship toward women has been different than, say, Sean Connery.

Sir Rog has always struck me an exceptionally decent human being, and if you believe that a person's real personality comes through in the parts they play on film, this did not make him the best candidate to play James Bond.

I know his movies were parodies, but it's weird that there's very little chemistry in his movies. Here, you have a man whose probably the most soulful lover in existence with probably 300+ women. But in the movies, he's really creepy, intimidating and manipulative toward women, treating them like property that's basically obliged to have sex with him.

It's just weird that in interviews he seemed so sexy, but in the films (about a spy who gets all the girls), he comes off as a creep-perv.

Do you think this was intentional? As a way of Moore trying to lampoon the character?

In the countless times I've seen all of Moore's movies, I've never had any of these thoughts about him. I think he has some of the best chemistry with the girls, up there with Connery. The rest are the ones I don't find believable.

Not really sure what you've got to back up your stats here on his personal life(and be careful because Rog has won a number of libel cases in recent years)

The key thing you have to remember is that Roger was a star and a heartthrob in the 60's and early 70's (Ivanhoe, Maverick, The Saint, The Persuaders) and if you look at pictures from that time then he WAS very handsome.

By the time he became Bond he brought with him the fact that he "used" to be very good looking and was certainly still fairly dashing in LALD and TMWTGG and he remained very popular. People just liked him.

So - it's all about history. A good point of comparison is Arnie in the new Terminator film. Anyone not having seen him before would think "who the hell is this guy" or "why's an old man playing this part" - but his performance and presence now is all based on his (stunning) appearance in the first two terminator films

Roger may not have been my favorite Bond but he seems to be a an exceptional human being.....not perfect (but who is?). A lot of the general public, especially in the US are not aware of Roger's humble beginings. Being the son of a Police Officer and growing up in a hard scrabble, working class environment I'm sure has influenced Sir Roger's longtime charitable works and caring for those less fortunate. Professionally, while not being a great actor, he has a reputation as being affable, prepared, a team player, generous, and always a source of good humor with everyone from producers, directors, co-stars, to the xtras, gofers and catering people. Just a gem of a person.

A/C has a new label which he loves to knock on every door with.

Firstly Connery was obese now Moore is creepy.
    One wonders what's next?

I also have to agree with Higgins that I've never ever got a " creepy" vibe
From any Roger Moore performance. The older man with younger leading
Lady is an old Hollywood tradition, Cary Grant, David Niven etc.
I'm guessing the complaint is about AVTAK, but luckily I find Stacy so
Annoying a character, that I wouldn't have cared if Roger had strangled her. :D

He obviously was manipulative to Solitaire, but the film portrays it in a rather comedic way. And after the first time she just wants more and more. It doesn't come off as creepy.

So there's a good example about Moore's Bond with women. Not manipulative in a bad way if this is his main goal.

On screen I think Roger Moore did a great job as Bond. I tend to watch his films more often than the others because they are all so entertaining. His version of Bond had the wit, charm, humour and the ability not to take himself too seriously and I get the feeling that was not unlike his personality in real life.
    As for the man himself, well going off the interviews I have watched of him, the warm memories of the actors who have worked with him and his inspiring charity work - he seems like a genuinely brilliant bloke to me -{
