Crockett and Jones Factory Shop

Hi, i was just wondering if anyone had been to the Crockett and Jones Factory Shop in Northampton. And if so, is it worth a visit?

    Hi, I have been.

    Didn't manage to get anything on my visit as they had nothing that I wanted but as far as deals go, they usually have anywhere from £50-£100 off of some shoes. The things is, because they are all seconds you dont know what they are going to have in stock. You could go and grab a great bargain or, be like me and come away with nothing.

    I drop in every so often, if you are looking for Bond shoes it is very hit and miss, however, it is worth asking if you are after something specific as the Camberley's I bought weren't on the shelf!

    Prices are around £180 a pair.

    It is only open on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Obviously the best time to go is to be there at 2pm on a Friday when they open as that is when that weeks rejects hit the shelves.

    It can be an expensive thing to do.

    These are my C&J's.

    Actually dropped into the shop this evening, in my size there were a pair of Tetbury's but already got some and a pair of Alex, which I was after, however they were shiney high gloss black so gave them a miss. :))

    Did you notice any boots at all? I'm after a pair of Islays for my forthcoming wedding.

    No Islays in my size but didn't look at other sizes.

    If you aren't local you can call them and they will check stock for you. They will then hold them for a couple of weekends until you can get there.

    I've bought a couple of pairs via the factory and they've posted them out to me. I called yesterday and they had a pair I wanted in my size but they no longer post out :(
    Yes. Considerably!

    That's great info - many thanks. I'll give them a call next week to find out. Being based in Manchester, the nearest C&J outlet to me is in Birmingham, so it's worth the extra 50 miles or so to go the the factory in my view, especially if there's a decent saving to be had. I supposed that if there's nothing in my size, I can always order from the factory, or if that's no longer possible, stop off in Brum on the way back home.

    Thanks undreamt - really helpful post. -{

    Made the 3 hour drive to the factory shop today and got there 5 minutes to opening time. Up the stairs and straight to the size 10's and fate was smiling on me - a lovely pair of chestnut Islays, which fit just perfectly.

    I also got a pair of monk strap shoes, called Buxton, but I can see no reference to this model on the C&J website - possibly a new model not yet released? Pics to follow, but the Buxtons are basically a double strap fastening wingtip brogue - imagine a pair of Lowndes crossed with a pair of Pembrokes or Swanseas.

    So, that's another thing crossed off the wedding outfit list!

    Looking forward to the pics...what sort of price did you pay ? If that's not too rude a question ? ;%

    I wouldn't mind a trip there -{

    Pics later this morning, when my fiancée has gone out (I'll be wearing one or the other pair for our wedding in 7 weeks time, so I don't want her seeing them!!). Prices were very reasonable - £200 for the Islays and £150 for the Buxtons - it'd be rude not to buy them at that price.

    There was also a pair of Skye3 in black in my size, but I decided to leave those for someone else and not be greedy. I daresay I'll be going back in a few months time, once the trauma of the return journey has been forgotten: 30 minute queue at the A14/M1/M6 junction and nearly 3 hours delays from Hilton Park services back to Warrington.

    I believe you and I are not far from each other Sir Miles - we should meet up at some point for a drink and a chinwag.

    Very nice!! :007)
    I love my Islays. They were a perfect fit and the first shoes I've ever owned that didn't need breaking in or hurt my feet. You were very lucky - that's an amazing price!

    Is the Factory Shop outlet only for seconds? Are there any noticeable flaws for this sort of discount?

    I've examined the Islays for flaws and all I can find is a tiny dark brow spot in the leather on the left boot - almost like a big freckle in the original hide.

    The Buxtons have a little scuff mark at the top of the buckle piece on the right shoe, but trousers will ordinarily cover this and it'll be joined by other wear marks in time.

    The factory shop is for seconds and sometimes prototype models too. I'm not sure that the Buxtons fall into this category as I've not seen them before.

    I once bought a pair of Churches from one of their outlets and the sales person told me they only sell them as seconds if they are not 100% perfect. This could be a scuff like Commander says or even a stitch out of place. In terms of the leather used, size and that sort of thing, they are the same. I am guessing C&J would be the same.

    You've done very well. Paying so little for a pair of Islay's, I bet you were tempted to laugh out loud :)

    I've bought a couple of pairs from the factory in the past when they used to post out. You did well to get the green dust bags as well. Congrats.

    Thanks for the prices and the photos - beautiful boots -{

    I do fancy a trip there but would be gutted to get all the way there and then find they have nothing I fancy :o

    The_Commander....I believe we aren't that far away either...I'm in Bolton - for my sins :))

    And before I forget - good luck with the wedding {[]

    You could always ring up on a Friday and they will reserve for around a week or two. However, if you like quality, I defy you not to find something you like if you nip down on a Friday when stocks are at their best.

    Thanks for the best wishes, I'm sure it'll go well, but the organisation is giving me a few more grey hairs!! I presume you're booking for Printworks Imax for Spectre? If it's opening night is indeed Monday 26th, then that'll be my first day back in the UK after our honeymoon. All AJB'ers should make themselves known to each other with a pin badge I reckon, just like the Q lapel badge in QoS.
