TLD has a serious plot mixed with some brilliant OTTness (milk bottle and cello case) great action (cargo net fight at the end) and a brilliant score. Damn near perfect. The main issue is while Dalton is great his one liners are very uncomfortably delivered
eventhough it isn't my favourite film, I'd have to say Goldfinger.
It's the movie that established the formula that all future installments followed (or tried to).
"You see Mr.Bond, you can't kill my dreams...but my dreams can kill you.Time to face destiny" - "Time to face gravity"
In the spirit of this thread, I watched OHMSS and TLD this week.
OHMSS is definitely not flawless, for example the huge plot hole blunder of Bond "not" getting his professional details right.
TLD was even better than I remembered. I've often criticized Moneypenny, Felix Leiter, and the second half being weaker than the first. However, last night none of that seemed to matter. I just really enjoyed it start to finish.
Fleming's short stories hold up quite well on film:
Property of a Lady is a flawless part of Octopussy.
Risico is a flawless part of FYEO.
TLD is a flawless part of TLD. In fact, I would rank most of TLD as flawless with just a few minor grips. (Why does Bond shoot over the heads of all 3 main villains when he surprises them on the cargo plane???Why waste all ppk ammo on the tiny piece of clear body armour???)
Overall, I would rank Goldfinger and TSWLM as the most flawless Bond films. They are both perfect examples of the series at its absolute finest. Moonraker comes very close, except for Jaws flapping his wings in the PTS and 7up product placement. The neat thing about MR is I enjoy each scene immensely, while eagerly looking forward to the next.
My current 10 favorite:
1. GE 2. MR 3. OP 4. TMWTGG 5. TSWLM 6. TND 7. TWINE 8.DN 9. GF 10. AVTAK
To me there is hands down no flawless Bond film. I love the movies so much but I can definitely pick apart aspects of even my favourite ones. However it is these imperfections that are often part of what I love about the series and relish that these films are not "perfect."
"Mango, banana and tangerine. Sugar and ackee and cocoa bean!"

Exactly! The Bond novels upon which the film franchise was based are basically the stuff of pulp fiction- to expect a Bond film to hit the heights of The Godfather or Lawrence Of Arabia is silly. In fact, YOLT had gobs of money thrown at it, a big name writer, AND the cinematographer FROM Lawrence Of Arabia, and it's still just a big, giant B-movie. And I think Bond movies work best as sheer entertainment and not wannabe Oscar winners.

Well a little of both would be ideal )
I agree with chris. The Oscars have questionable criteria anyway.

Okay guys, imagine this: OHMSS with a TB era Connery. IMO THAT would be perfection, and it would also be bad for every other Bond film made after, because no other would ever match that perfection. A perfect Bond movie could kill the entire franchise!
Drax has some wonderful lines in Moonraker, and his delivery of
them is masterful. -{
He sure does! Although Drax gets more good lines, imo Kamal Khan has has the best delivery of his two classic lines soon to made extinct, and nasty habit of surviving.
From Russia With Love comes close, as does On Her Majesty's Secret Service. To me, they both have only one flaw, which it shares with every other Bond film: Fleming's novels were better.
Other than that, it's about as flawless as a Bond film can be.
On a personal level, if there IS a flawless Bond movie, TND is it. Oh yeah, I know the 'generic' arguments, and yeah, lots of machine gun fire- whatever. It truly is the ONE Bond movie that I personally find no flaw at all in. -{
Goldfinger could have a good case for being flawless.

The biggest flaw in TSWLM for me (if anything) is the plot, but I don't let it bother me too much.
I think plots weren't Gilbert's forte, but he's still possibly my fave of the 007 directors.

Disagree. The film is perfect until the Fort Knox raid then it all becomes a bit of a mess. Bond doesn't even save the day!
I don't really think any Bond film is flawless. Although I may nominate TSWLM as a contender but then again, people will pick up flaws in it.
"Better make that two."
