Would love to attend one.
Well here we are again at Pinewood Studios, a very different Pinewood from last year. As many of you know there has been an on-going battle with the local council over a planned expansion of the studios onto the surrounding land which will bring in much needed revenue, create many jobs and propel Pinewood as a centre of filmmaking excellence back to the top of the tree. Not that it needs to go far, if it wasn't already the best then why does Bond and the Star Wars franchise film here? After many stalled attempts to obtain the relevant permissions, it was finally granted earlier this year. All I can say is that the construction workers must have been waiting in the starting blocks, as driving through the back lanes toward Pinewood all you could see was studio construction. Often you can glace through the back fence into the Paddock Tank backlot and see what's filming but not now everything is blocked from view. Once inside the Studio it is now fences and security gates everywhere, no more wandering.
Once morning coffee had been taken it was off to the John Barry Theatre, escorted of course, where along with those cast and crew present, we settled down to watch FYEO. There is something very satisfying about seeing vintage Bond on the big screen, although I am lucky enough (make that old enough) to have seen them all on the big screen. As I had to get the prop display set up before everybody left the screening I left at the Q/St Cyril's scene to be escorted back to the Hall to get set up. Imagine my surprise on leaving the main theatre to run into the cast who had also sneeked out and were now partaking of the bubbly stuff with none other than Sir Roger and Lady Moore themselves. So I missed the big reveal in the theatre itself, but did have plenty of time to get set up.
Most of the pieces are my own work but thanks must also go to the very talented Henrik Abel who supplied some of the paper props. I know a lot of people have done the Philips Table bug recorder but I though I would go one better and do the whole thing and I think it turned out pretty good. The table got a lot of admiring looks.
Lunch was served in the main dining room and this was followed by Dave Worral's famous tour of the gardens, as explained above Star Wars VIII is now in full swing so the backlot is now, unfortunately, strictly off limits. Afternoon tea was served along with Gareth's Q&A on stage with the principals and selected crew members. Those of you that frequent these events are familiar with the quiz and although Ajay was one of the finalists I am pleased to report that the spoils went to another on this occasion, a young man whose scarily rapid answers to the most diverse questions on FYEO won the admiration of all in the room.
Another great occasion run by Gareth & Andy, long may they continue. Many thanks to them both.

Could you speak wih sir Roger about the watch that he was wearing?
To me it looks like a Seiko Analogue Chronograph?
