Apparently, Daniel Craig has been told to 'shut up' by execs at Sony after his cranky outburst to Time Out London, in which he was quoted as saying he would rather slash his wrists than do another Bond film.
Gossip, but quite believable nevertheless. Craig should be gracious and polite instead of so ungentlemanly and just say he didn't want to play Bond anymore. He is untitled to it, and no one will make him. A handful of fans on AJB might shed a tear or two though.
Pierce Brosnan thought he'd do a fifth Bond film, nope, he was gone. It can happen to Craig. No-one is indispensable. Craig should not assume the studio and Eon will just agree to his salary demands. Other actors are out there waiting for the chance to play 007.
Wasn't Pierce just a victim of circumstance? He wanted to do another Bond movie. Just his age was against him.
Yes, they wanted to make an origin story to follow the trends in film, so Pierce had to go. He could have done a great CR if they wanted to keep the film closer to the book.
Just waiting for Broadshoulder to attack me for saying this

T All this "he's a bleedin' ingrate, get rid of him" stuff is all tab/internet nonsense. It also appeals to the misery/doom and gloom crowd (remember the Sony leaks: the film is overbudget, the script sucks, Amy Pascal hates it, it's gonna be a bomb, blah, blah, blah). I can't wait until this film is out already. This kind of crap is getting a bit hard to take.

"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
A person doesn't STAY tired, generally. They get some rest.
Sure, Craig would be rested and fit prior to the start of filming Bond 25 but if it's a six/seven month shoot, with lots of action that he can do (and not done by a stuntman) he'll get tired. He'll be 50 if they film Bond 25 in 2018. 50 isn't that old in the grand scheme of things but I think Craig has a genuine concern about returning and becoming too tired. He also suffered a bad knee injury making SPECTRE so it's possible he has a concern about damaging it in a future Bond film. Obviously all these concerns have to be weighed up against a vast salary for making Bond 25.
Would you endure six/seven months of filming, risk extreme tiredness, for 30 million dollars? A lot of people (if they were in Craig's position) would say "yes!"
Another aspect worth adding to the debate - Craig hasn't made a film since Skyfall! I mean, apart from SPECTRE. I don't know, he may have less desire to act? I get the impression acting is not the be all in his life. He's secured a vast fortune playing Bond so his desire to act may have diminished. This could influence his decision not to return to the role.
I think Craig's comments - be they light hearted or serious - have upset some in the industry. Sony are releasing one of the most expensive films of all time with SPECTRE, you don't need the star to mention "only for the money" and "slashing his wrists!" It was a silly thing to say and it's had some negative impact on the film. Film sponsors may think "we don't want to have our products linked to a guy talking about cutting his wrists." It creates a negative vibe.
I would be very surprised if he didn't return for one more.
The current series of films are proving extremely successful and DC is a popular Bond amongst the general public and film going fraternity. Personally, I don't feel the franchise is in need of a reboot quite yet. One more with DC would keep me happy and then a new actor/direction after that.
Perhaps if the series was beginning to look tired with DC and there was a natural, stand-out successor for the role of 007 laying in the wings, it would be a different story, but it isn't and there's not, so I'm more than happy to see him and the current cast/crew return for bond 25. -{
Sony and the other "powers that be" would be upset if Craig had allegedly slagged the film itself. For example if he said "I'd rather slit my wrists than be involved in another piece of garbage like SPECTRE" that would be an issue. This whole thing is blown so out of proportion it's becoming a joke. Those who never cared for Craig as Bond are always going to jump on anything negative and make something out of nothing. I'm sure that people who didn't care for PB were saying/thinking "He's got a bad back, perfect time to be rid of him".

Pierce wasn't the reason that his four films were mostly rubbish, so I don't think he deserves any abuse.
As for this purported Craig scandal, his remarks were unfortunate but I think everyone is reading too much into it, whether it's his supporters or detractors. The thing Craig has repeated over and over is that he doesn't know whether he'll do another. We can speculate, but it's meaningless. We'll know when we know.
Immediately after winning his fourth Rowing Gold medal at the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996, Sir Steve Redgrave said: “If you ever see me in a boat again, shoot me.” In 2000 he won his fifth Gold at the Sydney Olympics.
I take DC's off the cuff remark in the same way. I for one, hope he'll be back.

Poor Pierce. At the time his films were new he really was by many fans considered the best Bond since Connery. Now it's Craig's turn.
I really do love all 6 Bonds, but this leads me to a cynical theory that a huge portion of film goers only accept what it current. I've heard so many people say they would never watch a film made before they were born, so they could well be missing out on Dr. No, Goldfinger, OHMSS, etc.
Even more cynical, by that rationale, you could cast country singer Kenny Rogers as Bond, make it "edgy", promote it as being true to Ian Fleming's concept, and a large portion of the audience would buy it and consider HIM to be the definitive OO7. Hence the Craig bashing would begin.
Kind of a shame in way that more audiences don't embrace previous films along with the current era.

Yep, you could argue any actor could have played Bond in Skyfall and its box office tally would have been the same (give or take a few million)! People didn't see Skyfall cos Craig was so magnetic, wonderful in the part. It was a hyped up 50th anniversary Bond film and people wanted to see it. But I doubt it was because many thought Craig was the greatest Bond ever, just the current one they like. At a deeper level you could argue the endring appeal of the James Bond franchise is, at its core, shallow/superficial.
Most film goers are not true Bond film purists, it's just a franchise that never went away so people feel obliged to revisit it every two/three years. If every film goer were a Bond film purist I doubt CR would have been a hit. Too mant purist Bond fans would have rejected Craig - be it for his appearance, his blunt less charismatic style, the relative lack of romantic charm (Bond is a romantic hero as much as an action hero) etc. But 95 percent of the worldwide fan base for Bond doesn't care. Pick any actor, hype the film enough, retain the formula = box office success. Sean Connery version 2 is irrelevant to nearly all Bond fans. They don't demand he is found nor do they care if he's never found.

IMO I don't think EON, MGM, Sony are particularly bothered by all this silly hoo ha. It keeps SPECTRE in the news and fresh in the mind of the public.....plenty of free publicity. My guess is EON knows exactly where things stand with Craig returning.
Craig's slitting wrists comment attracts negative coverage in the letters page of today's Metro paper (which is free on the London transport system).
The same rag went today with a short article about Craig's good work in Cyprus, highlighting the issue of landmines. It's a timely new 'issues' story, offsetting the criticism which the slitting wrists remark attracted from people understandably offended by an apparent insensitivity to the issue of mental health. I agree that, at this time, coverage of Craig of any sort contributes to publicity for SPECTRE. Let's hope Craig's still on board for a fifth Bond.
Critics and material I don't need. I haven't changed my act in 53 years.
Comments
Agree. Craig's done the 3-film re-boot and Spectre maybe more conventional. Perfect time to hand it over.
