Pretty impressive especially the audio, the cinema was booming each time Hinx smashed Bond up on the train against the walls, doors, tables etc! Then of course the big explosion at the end with HQ falling!!!!
Just got back from seeing SPECTRE at the IMAX. Enjoyed my first viewing of the film, will see it again most likely with a friend who is also a Bond fan on Tue or Wed. First impressions: definately a love letter to the series and the loyal fans. A better entry than QOS (which I don't believe is a bad Bond film, just flawed). It's classic Bond in many ways despite the sometimes clunky melding of the classic formula with the grit and backstory of the Mendes/Logan/Craig collaberation. Is it sometimes a big, overblown, operatic mess?.......yes, but it's a highly entertaining, beautifully crafted mess, which is what epic Bond films tend to be and why we keep coming back for more. IMO, many of the US critics have been rediculously harsh in their reviews, some to a mean spirited troll-like level, some now stooping to the level of referencing the Sony hack and judging the film by its alleged budget and disrespecting and dismissing the fans of the series like we are tasteless dolts ie "this film is bad, but the dopey fans will go see it anyway". The only thing that counts is I had a great time today watching a new Bond film -{ ........I'm just too stupid to know any better.
It's amazing since the American critic's started hating on SP and calling it one of the worst Bond films, people are coming out of the wood work and are questioning film critic's like Mark Kermode and others for given it such a high rating. Check Kermode's twitter page, he's getting some abuse as are fellow critic's for giving it top marks.
I didn't like SP too much (seen it twice and still find it boring in parts), and find it mind blogging that many find it better then SF or CR but I respect opinions. But to call it the worst Bond film of all time like some U.S critic's and to bully other critic's into changing their minds on it is a little OTT. It seems to have ticked the box for many Bond fans, many non fan's are calling it one of the worst films of the year which I find a little silly. I just find it funny on here, aside from one or two groans it's either enjoyed or been given top marks outside the Bond fandom it's been slaughtered.
I could easily see myself watching SP more often than SF.
Just a colorful, fun film to watch.
I like SF, but I think I might come to like SP even more.

It's obvious that the North Koreans are behind the negative reviews and the internet bullying of people who wrote positive reviews.
On a more serious note, anyone calling SPECTRE one of the worst films of the year...well hmm, uh....may be it really is the North Koreans..
If Amy Pascal was still at Sony and Sony re-upped with EON, the PTS of Bond 25 would be Bond assasinating a thinly vailed version of Kim Jong Ill II ) -{
Levity is fine, but I do belive there are serious questions that need to be investigated. Are these critics being paid by the North Korean government? Have these critics or their loved ones been threatened by agents of North Korea and coersed? Are these scathing reviews actually being posted by agents of North Korea posing as legitimate film critics?

Saw the film today and enjoyed it a lot. It's not perfect but it is far better than just about anything else playing right now. Will post more specific impressions later but with regard to all the negative reviews: its a phenomenon that I've seen again and again with these high profile blockbuster films.
Skyfall was really well received critically and so I was hardly surprised at all the unfair derision Spectre got, in fact I was kind of expecting it. Commercially viable franchises are always targeted by critics; when they actually praise one you can almost always be sure they will go out of their way to find fault with the followup. It's as if the critics are saying to themselves, "wait a minute, I actually liked one of these commercial movies and dared to praise it when I should have been singing the virtues of some obscure no-budget movie no rational person would think of watching. I'll have to remember to pan the next one to make up for it".
I've seen it again and again with high profile franchise films:
- Casino Royale was praised, Quantum was panned
- Iron Man got raves, IM2 was derided
- Avengers was hailed as a great ensemble piece, Age of Ultron was maligned
There are far far more examples; none of the followups were nearly as bad as these snobby critics would have you believe.
This is true. Skyfall was overhyped. And as a result, Spectre is probably getting backlash from the crowd who are holding Skyfall to a higher standard.
SF was Mendes' training ground.
Boy did he learn!!! -{
Agreed. I think he did a good job directing SF, but an even better one directing SP.

In MY case, the 2 1/2 hours FLEW by! SF by comparison was a chore to get through.
I find it crazy that many find SF boring but I thought SP was one of the biggest disappointments of the year and was bored by the end, a big step back for Bond. That's after two screenings.
Give me SF over SP any day of the week.
But Craig is awesome as Bond but they need to keep things dark instead of going into Moore type laughs. I expect a big step up if he does one last film.

Well Sp opened here in NZ today, i went to the first showing in my town at 1030... was the only one there, so had a private viewing (there are only about 6 people who live in NZ!)
I really enjoyed it, sure there are plot holes, the sam smith is music is a bit crap and some of the CGI is a bit obvious, but it had planes, trains and autos, boats, guns, bangs and fights..... do i need to be a film critic to enjoy it? nope, damn good film i say

I live in New Zealand as well. I'm watching it in a few hours! Can't wait.
