Im waiting for the us release. If people are saying it is better than quantum but worse than the other two, but they keep giving it like a 7, then what the heck? because Quantum was a 7 to me, Casino and Skyfall are 10s. That means I'll probably see it as an 8.5

Guys, watch out if you are on twitter and you are following "The Economist". I think they might have spoilt SPECTRE for me with the title of their bloody online review. X-(

With myself been one of the people on here not been blown away by it, I can't say it's not worth seen cause it is but like you I think CR and SF are both 10's, it's nowhere in the same ballpark for me. I just put it ahead of QOS (which I love) in the Craig canon.

Well, all opinions---even professional ones---should be taken with that same grain of salt. Subjective preference is the natural default: we like what we like, and generally disregard what critics deem is better, or what we ought to like, based on someone's idealized notion, be it based on film education or simply a lifetime of watching films. Some will prefer SP to CR. Some prefer AVTAK to GF, or TMWTGG to TSWLM. It's one of the many reasons that so many people still talk about these things, when other films from 1962 or 1977 have been forgotten altogether.

It looks like SP has been designed as a fan pleaser, and I certainly appreciate that, but IMO that doesn't mean that it's crap if some fanboys or critics don't like it. It will succeed, or fail, in millions of brain-sized cinemas around the world.

The thing for me is I actually became a Bond fan cause of the darker more gritty take of the Craig early efforts, so I came late to the table (I'm 33) I did see the Bond films when they were shown on ITV back in the 90's on a Wednsday night. I wasn't that blown away aside from Connery's first four films but thanks to Casino Royale I just bought all the films on DVD and Blu ray.

I know a lot of fans wanted the fun bought back into the Bond Films, for me give me dark and gritty and downbeat over silly Bond anyday, That's why I love early Connery, Dalton and Craig and I just can't stand Moore Later Connery and Bronsan's films. Maybe that's why I couldn't quite take to Spectre as I wanted too, I just found those things creeping back in again. Maybe I'm just a miserable git :))

I'm 53, the same age as the franchise, so I've seen it evolve, devolve, and wax and wane over the years. Sounds like our tastes are very similar, actually! I too prefer dark & gritty, but IMO it's important to maintain a balance, if only to distinguish themselves from the competition. A bit of fun is okay :007)

For me give me CR SF and QOS over Spectre's anyday, I just like dark and gritty Bond. If you check my Bond top ten nearly 8 of the films are all the darkest and more gritty films. I'm just never a fan of Moore/Brosnan style of Bond and I never will be. I hope it never goes back down that route again. I don't mind a joke or two but I never want to see it going back to OTT schemes and silly Bond girl names and winking at the audience anymore. But I be slaughtered for saying that cause it seems that's what many fan's want.

I think the thing that annoy myself and my brother mostly was Craig's Bond in Spectre wasn't as asskicking as in his first three films. I would have loved to see the young hot headed Bond in CR go at it with Batista hetchman.

There is a real eeriness at times, there are also nods to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Can you expand on this? Or would it reveal too much? TGWTDT is one of my all time favourites.

No spoiler alert, not anything... There, in the bloody title. Sony pictures ought to have a few words with The Economist. What a bunch of...How can you put such an spoiler in the title and tweet it, with the movie released in just three countries? Preposterous.

Well, it is when Craig heads off to snowy climes and is investigating on his own. Much as he did as Bloomquist, there is this nagging sense of paranoia and the past catching up with you. He turns up at a cabin not unlike the one he rents in Dragon, you see him in it pictured with the chess board (though this may have been a stylistic nod to McQueen in The Thomas Crown Affair, Bond doesn't play chess in this, it's there already set up and you'd never believe Craig's Bond could play chess anyway. Moore's Bond yes).

It's a bit superficial and maybe his palling up with the Bond girl has the same vibe cos she is so young and also damaged. That said, his dalliance with the Dragon tattoo girl felt just right despite the age gap cos she comes onto him, whereas here the chemistry doesn't quite work, the sex part of it really.

Well chess isn't for everyone, I mean I don't play it. Not sure I'd believe Connery would play it either. Anyway, it's a villain's game (Kronsteen), surely?

Chess is a game of tactics, patience and alright, brainpower, it's cerebral and really you don't attribute that to Craig's Bond, he's a go straight in and shoot em up guy. Moore, less so, he did appear to be more cerebral and circumspect.

Likewise, the whole Bond as an expert in every field thing we got with Connery and Moore just doesn't work with Craig and so isn't used, however it is plausible that he can pick up on foreign languages as he did in QoS and one part of SP.

Well, the guy simply hasn't the time to play chess, really---but I'll naturally resist the notion that Craig's Bond is dimmer than Connery's or Moore's, LOL. Bond is an expert in anything requiring his expertise at the moment; I don't think that's been abandoned in the current era at all...it just isn't done as cheekily anymore (or perhaps it is in SP, as of course I can't watch it yet).

It would be nice to see Bond engage in something like that, as part of the narrative movement of a story---not a whole game, mind you, but as an activity during a dialogue exchange, where in the old days a pair of characters might smoke cigarettes. Alcoholic drinks are the default device for this sort of thing nowadays.

Craig's Bond is more likely to play snakes and ladders than chess. As he said to Madeleine Swann in the deleted scene:
"You bring the snakes, I'll bring the ladder."

    "Don't be so literal, James."

I think he would have been taught by his benefactor...

And poker is hardly a game for the stupid, that takes skill, patience and being able to read the other player.

I think he would be able to play chess... (hey my 10 year old can, and he's not super smart, much more the outdoorsey type) maybe not brilliantly, but he would give anyone a run for their money....

Saw SPECTRE last night in IMAX Rotterdam, two and a half hours of Bond, and not a dull moment.
wanna see the film again, the OST makes much more sense now.
    IMHO the best outing from Daniel Craig as Bond until now, he is Bond -{

For all its flaws, it's not boring. It seemed to play out just as well as CR and SF.

I agree, Craig is still too rough round the edges to seem like a plausible sophisticated international man of leisure, at ease in high society.
