I've heard it is darkest, and at the same time funniest , which Mendez finds the perfect balance between Classic and dark bond.
I've heard that the pacing sucks, then that the pacing is a masterstroke, that the action sucks, then that the action is top-notch, that the story sucks, then that the story is great, that the supporting cast is great, then that it sucks, that the finale sucks, then that it is the best finale of all the bonds, that it is too formulaic , then that the critic wished the series would go straight back to the simple mission formula, that Hinx was awesomen, then that he was wasted, that Waltz was amazing, then that he was wasted
That's about the size of it, all right. And that for better or worse, it's quintessential Bond ) Of course it's important to remember that the biggest hit in British film history* is not particularly highly-regarded by many strident Bond fans here...so perhaps SP is set to be an instant fan favourite, which the critics regard as a room-temperature turd on a paper plate. C'est la guerre -{
*SkyFall, of course
Seems a tad harsh to by sleight of hand connect not highly regarding Skyfall and being strident does it not? enjoy the movie.

All I ask is, lets keep the reviews in here spoiler free. Even though it opens Friday for me (I'm in California), I won't be able to see it until next week or maybe longer.
Some people would complain even if you hang them with a new rope
Usually by now I would have been to see a Bond movie three or four times, with SPECTRE its "can't be arsed" 6 or 7 score at most from me ,I actually enjoyed UNCLE more, just did nothing for me and those I have talked to who have seen it,including my wife, feel the same. Too many plot holes ,un-needed nods to the past and too much Austin Powers. And before the usual starts I have seen every Bond movie in the cinema starting with Thunderball when I was five and this one really was the most dissapointing for me.

IMO, there's certainly a connection to be made! Clearly SF is a mega-smash hit; the masses loved it. Here, where strident fans (I'm one) hang out and chat, it's widely considered to be deeply flawed, if not looked down upon, by many---and I wouldn't say they're wrong to do so; I simply like it more :007) This is why I think that Bond fans are infinitely better-qualified to judge/criticize Bond films---as opposed to garden variety 'film critics' who weigh everything against Truffault's 'The 400 Blows' or Kurosawa's 'Rashomon.'
To be fair, I said 'many,' both here and above, which I'd say is perfectly accurate, and not 'most.'
Thank you, I'm sure I will enjoy it very much -{ Cheers!

I just can't get my head around anyone enjoying The Man from Uncle film.
Do I sense some negativity from you?
I didn't like it either, but that had to do with it lacking much of what made the television show so great. Why make a film of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and not even have U.N.C.L.E.? ?:)
I loved Skyfall, liked Quantum a great deal, i think it has some of the best action scenes in the series if you can train your eyes to be able to follow the quit cutting camera. Thing is, it took that editing thing from Bourne, but When Bourne did the shaky cam no one complained.
I love pretty much all the bonds films, with exception to a few Moore's, like TMWTGG, OP, and VTAK . I didn't care for TND, DAD was cheezy but entertaining, TND and TMWTGG are the only ones i could legitametely call boring at times.
"The Man From UNCLE" basically took everything that was good and a bit different from the TV show and removed it, leaving (IMO) basically a less than mediocre retro "Spy Thriller / Comedy" that wasn't particularly funny or thrilling or even worked as satire. The current generation of the French "OSS: Agent 117" films are far superior in the context of what they are, satires / send-ups of Bond and the Euro Bond rip-offs of the 60's. "UNCLE" was basically a straight forward high production value Hollywood "A" version of those Bond rip-offs but lacking the cheesy, low budget, theater of the absurd, poorly dubbed charm of those European films.
Will be seeing SP soon, so I look forward to sharing my thoughts about that on the approppriate threads.
So far it seems opinions are pretty split on it.
"Hostile takeovers. Shall we?"
New 2020 ranking (for now DAF and FYEO keep their previous placements)
1. TLD 2. TND 3. GF 4. TSWLM 5. TWINE 6. OHMSS 7. LtK 8. TMWTGG 9. L&LD 10. YOLT 11. DAD 12. QoS 13. DN 14. GE 15. SF 16. OP 17. MR 18. AVTAK 19. TB 20. FRWL 21. CR 22. FYEO 23. DAF (SP to be included later)
Bond actors to be re-ranked later
I don't see how SP was as some say, OTT and Austin Powers?! Finally they let in some humor and some older Bond elements and it's bad again for some people...
"You see Mr.Bond, you can't kill my dreams...but my dreams can kill you.Time to face destiny" - "Time to face gravity"
HtH, how does SP rank for you when put against the other Craig 007 films?

The humour is more wry and sardonic (perfectly on message for Bond) we are not talking belly laughs or double taking Pidgeons. I thought some of the dialogue to be very sharp and right on the money. I like my Bond on the underdone side and had no trouble with it at all.

Going to see it tonight. If it is Craig's second best after Casino Royale, as some have suggested, this will be the perfect outcome for me. Because I want SPECTRE to be as good as possible, but subconsciously I think I will rationalize CR to stay no. 1 no matter what. )

Yes ,many times, and not being a great fan of the RM movies I prefer these two over SPECTRE.
Tonight's the night for me! Finally! I'm so pumped up to see it!!!! I'll be subtly representing AJB on my jacket, thanks to Higgins! Based on what I actually HAVE read, it sounds like the exact Bond movie I've been waiting for since Casino Royale. Wooohoo!!

It comes 2nd for me.
Now the good news: My Saturday is now free and I can go see SPECTRE (if my daughter saw this post I'd be dodging a hockey stick ) ).
